The offer from NYU was with the McCracken Fellowship. The email said they only initially accepted 12 people with funding, but have a large "accepted, waitlisted for funding" list in case some decline their offers. FWIW I think I'm declining in favor of U. Chicago at this point.

Hi Guys.
For Columbia, I am surprised that they admitt 52 Earthlings, seems like in the past 2 yrs Columbia has only less than 10 first year?? For NYU, Did they emailed the large waitlist Earthlings? Should I assume I am out? I emailed the grad coordinator...no reply again, Who is the admission chair? |

Does anyone know about the result of Boston, Northeastern, Notre Dame, UT Austin, Washington at Seattle and Toronto?
For UPenn, I am not sure whether the results are out. Since there is a post on the thegradcafe.com which stated that an applicant was rejected two days ago. That applicant asked his/her status by email and got a rejection. So Pennsylvania may let you know. Well, I am not sure. Can anyone confirm this to me? Also, for Berkeley, I want to know how many students were admitted in the past? I got rejected. They said this year they admited far less students than they did. Of course they didn't tell why. Does anyone know the reason? |

Fuwing2007, Yes the results for Penn are out. I talked to Prof. Block on Monday, and they voted on admissions last week. No one has received emails yet, including the admits. Details to come later this week or next.
Concerning Berkeley, I get the impression that they general aim for an entering class of ~40, so they admit maybe a few dozen more than that, anticipating a certain yield. I had a friend who is a math PhD student at Berkeley go ask Michael Christ about admissions for this year. They apparently over-matriculated last year and are handing out far fewer spots this year. I'm not sure what the actual numbers are, but I've heard of programs (MIT Physics to be specific), where the number of admits for one year was cut in half, or two-thirds, because of an over-matriculated year. Best of luck to everyone! |

Sorry. I forget to tell that, I emailed UPenn yesterday but didn't get any reply. So I doubt that whether the results of UPenn are out.
![]() For Berkeley, well....., what I can say is why I was not born several years before? ....If it was true, my chance could be better. For Columbia, I have no idea why they suddenly admit 52 Earthlings!!!...If I knew, I would apply...... ![]() |
