Well,UPenn also maintains a very informative page, see this URL:
    Graduate program data
But it turned out to be highly misleading for me(not their fault,of course).I was quite sure that I was going to be admitted after seeing the average GRE scores, but Tony Pantev told me that the average Math GRE score of selected applicants this year was 860.

I really doubt that the mean was 860, though perhaps it was the median. With a perfect score being 890, that wouldn't leave much room for people who scored lower. But perhaps accepting so many high scorers explains why they have to accept 40 applicants to fill 10 spots.

I find 860 ridiculously high too,and almost impossible by UPenn standards, but that's what I have been told.

well, I started to think if the grade char of UPenn may make a mistake, or she said the "860" in purpose.

Well, if it is true, then what are the GRE scores of Princeton, UC Berkely, Stanford, Yale, MIT, Harvard, or any other universities? All are 890, ah? If it is also true, then it seems this year GRE doesn't mean anything.

UPenn is surely a good university in US, but not the best.

The gradchair of UPenn is a professor(not a secretary) and a "he".I thought it might be a printing mistake first, but the next line in his mail suggested that he meant it.In the next line,he said that there were more than 130 candidates this year with Math GRE score more than 750!But Deadskunk's "median theory" might be correct, though the gradchair used the word "average".
By the way, does anybody know about any reliable report of the ranking of US universities for Pure Math,or if possible, for Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry?(I know about phds.org and US World Report, but they include applied math also.)

sorry.....i mixed him up with the grad chair of northeastern....sorry about that

My impression is that UPenn is good at geometry, on both differential and algebraic side. But I don't know whether they are good at number theory.

Anyway, I really can't wait for the result of UPenn, although I know probably I will be rejected.

Anybody here who has got into Maryland with financial aid but is not planning to join there? Please decline the offer as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!(I have been admitted there, but financial aid depends on declining of Maryland's offer by other people).

I don't know why you guys seem to think 890 is the highest score. Scores top out at 990, although perfects on some tests don't go that high. I definitely know of a few people who scored over 900.

Well, at least I scored 900 which puts me in the 99% range. I don't know if all the test are out of 990, that depends on the form you get.

    Dear American applicants,

Please excuse me for my curiosity. But I was wondering how large the fraction of US applicants was who could apply without paying the application fee.The websites of all the universities contain a long list of categories(I don't know what they mean) of people who can apply without paying the fee.If I were in one of the categories,I would certainly have applied to at least 30 universities, perhaps.
