high gre scores are just not enough for those schools, especially for the top three you mentioned.
besides gre scores, high gpa and stable reco's are not enough neither.
I just do not know what else a human being should do in order to get in those schools.

For MS degrees (at least in computer science), USC is relatively easy to get into compared to other schools of a similar rank. So the quantitative GRE averages that Aun posted seem very accurate.

(Anyway, Aun is just trying to spread the word about the information he/she has "acquired" about the average GRE for each school.)

GRE scores are used as plain cutoff, nothing more nothing less.

    Keep on publishing, I guess

An example of a brilliant CMU student:

YouTube - Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Of course, this guy is above average even for CMU, which is why CMU highlights him on their HCI website.

hey guys i didnt mean these are unnecessary data, just even the sum of these may even not be enough (indeed generally you have to keep a high profile in each of the parts of application, but still every generalization is flawed including this one )

Yeah, I knew what you meant. Ideally, one wants something special that can really stand out, like a best student paper award at an international conference.
