I'm not familiar with non-CS engineering, but your GRE score and possibly your GPA (as I am unaware of your class rank and reputation of your university) probably require safer options to assure admission. Certainly, no one is assured admission into Berkeley, CMU, or UIUC.

In any case, even for UF, I would retake the GRE to get a higher quantitative score. The average quantitative GRE score for all engineering grad students at UF is over 750, from what I remember when I had a USNews subscription.

My Graduate Aggr. Percentage is 74% (Univ. topper aggre will be 78%)

Post gradute diploma - 77% (topper % is 82).This institution is under ministry of power (govt. of india) only four institution overall in india.

your are right i am also thinking to retake GRE but my concern is whether GRE is the only criteria to select, is it worth to take Exam again just to increase my score by 60 more points.

Please suggest i require your suggestions.

Thanks & Regards

While the GRE isn't everything, I'm sure there is a high correlation between a quantitative score of below 700 and getting a rejection letter from a well-ranked engineering school like UF. Any score that is significantly below the average can prompt your application from being filtered out. (For computer science, a quantitative score below 770 is considered bad for Berkeley. Of course, the GRE is the least important factor into getting into Berkeley, but it may be the most important factor for not getting your application thrown away immediately.)

I asked why they liked me, and I was told pretty directly that it was my GRE score.

Hello,

Thanks Calmlogic for nice guidance.

Actually i am thinking to apply for some Low profile university also for Safety.

Wht is a decent Quants score for any good university. If i give GRE whether they consider Average GRE score or Best of two.

What is % of success in Second chance to get Good GRE score.

Actually i am looking for both PHD & MS courses.

I have two options :

1. Retake GRE & try for good Universities.
2. Look for Tier II Universities & later change to Good University.

Please suggest which one i have to choose.

Thanks again

Regards

See:

I have read some people see a big boost. The PowerPrep software for the GRE is probably your best (free) tool for determining how you will do a second time unless you have seen all the questions before. I haven't taken the GRE yet, but when I was in high school, I scored 50 points higher (out of 800) on my second attempt on the quantitative section of the SAT and 100 points higher on the verbal. So my combined score went from 1210 to 1360 in exactly 5 months.

BTW, you may also want to use the old PowerPrep software for the quantitative GMAT exam as a way to get new math questions to study with:

I forgot to say....It's either best of the two or the most recent -- I don't know which is more likely. I have never read of any school averaging scores.
