My GRE score is too low - 510 V and 490 Q. I'm from Asia and English is not my mother tongue, nor is it the official language here. What's more, due to too hard a work schedule, I couldn't get more than 2 weeks to study for GRE. I took TOELF International in August, 2003 and I got 633 as total score and 6 as TWE. I'm planning to do M.Sc in Economics but now chances are so slim. Does any college in the USA accept such a low GRE score?

I've received the letter from the scholarship sponsor informing us of being selected but it seems that with the low GRE scores, the placement staff of the sponsor agency will not succeed in persuading the colleges to accept me.

    So sad, so disappointed.

If you know anything about the application process or anything relating to admission, please explain to me. Thanks a lot!

    Hey nile...

In what country are you in Asia? I am from Indonesia. Your TOEFL and TWE score are superb! But I do think you should retake GRE score if it is possible. IMHO, for Economics they do look for Quant score. I can not help you with the admission process, since I'm in the process of applying one either :o.

    Cheers,

    Hey nile,

I also believe that the most smartest thing to do is to retake the GRE that would give you a much better chance with applications and you can go and aim to the top colleges around to do your M.Sc in Economics. As Zulfinho said they do look for you quant score in economics and try and give yourself the best chance possible at success. They would also spend detail in your appl;ication form recomendation letters etc.... . First things first retake the GRE if possible then reapply and you will just have to try and work around your work schedule it does get pretty tough but you'll get there.

    Regards,

    Tim

Nile, I'd say most of the guys are right on the money. Retake the GRE.

Focus on the Math section during your preparation. Do a bunch of tests, figure out your weakest areas, and try to spend more time on getting those right, both during practice and on the test itself. I can tell you that it works; not tooting my own horn, but I got an 800 on the Math part because I used that technique.
