Based on the organizational structure, I beleive they were modelled after French Grand Ecole system, though I do not have any valid citation for this

I am really interested in getting more info about this, AFAIK India was invaded by the British army, hence it'll be influenced by the British system of Education.
I am familiar with the grandes ecoles system because my university is following this system. Furthermore, my college is affiliated with ENST and we have some joined programs with them. Still, I can't see any similarity between IIT and my university. I would really appreciate it if you can elaborate.

And a guy from any ordinary institute with research experience in IIT will be valued more than the earlier
