IR, Philosophy, MBA? Too Late for This Year?
Hi, I recently talked myself out of applying to law school, and now I'm scrambling to figure out what to apply for instead this year. My dream would be to get an MBA and a masters in either philosophy or international relations. My first question is, Are there any joint MBA-philosophy programs? Secondly, are there any good philosophy/IR programs? Third, what are the best joint MBA-IR programs? Finally, I overheard someone yesterday in the park say that a school she was applying to for a masters in psychology had an application deadline of December 15th, but that they started reviewing applications in July, and that being reviewed early had a distinct advantage. Is this the case in general or only with certain schools? Since I'm going for top schools and won't be able to send out good apps until September at the earliest, should I just wait until next year?
Thanks so much, Alex |

Top MBA Applications Deadlines For TAMU (Mays) and Arizona (Eller), it seems their deadlines range from November - April: Admissions : Eller MBA : Eller College of Management : The University of Arizona Admissions | Mays Business School MBA Program A lower-ranked program (UF) offers rolling admissions: University of Florida MBA Programs For most grad programs that I am familiar with (computer science), the deadline for Fall 2009 admission is usually sometime between December 15th, 2008 and February 2009 for international students and often months later for domestic students, e.g. July 2009. I am not familiar with MBA programs, but I would assume some of them also offer Spring admission. Quote:

![]() Concerning international relations, I don't know, but I knew someone who got an MS in international relations. His first job after graduating was 100% clerical work. An MS in philosophy would certainly be even worse concerning employment. (BTW, another bad sign concerning philosophy is the PhD program at UF is possibly closing down. And I like philosophy more than most people, so I am not critical of it except when it comes to employment.)

But, I must agree. As a philosophy MA student, you will have no employment options besides possibly adjuncting at a CC. But, if you don't care about that, I think you could find some schools that would still be willing to consider you for Fall. Since philosophy MA programs aren't all that popular, you might have some luck with sending an email to the schools you are interested in if you do it soon (my schools deadline was the begining of July). Maybe a "design your joint degree program" could arrange a phl MA and an MBA, but I know of no formal arrangements. This is the main site for graduate philosophy programs if you are interested in rankings, terminal MA programs, ect: The Philosophical Gourmet Report 2006 - 2008 : Welcome |
