@wangming: What's the OA?
If I have my basics right then A is the answer. Always all words in the English dictionary have 'primary' and 'secondary' meanings. Whenever confronted with a question of this nature, you have to make a choice AND go for the word which best fits the primary meaning. The primary meaning of the word SLOUCH is to slump over in which case A best fits as an antonym. Let's say we did not have a choice A here and we had some other less fitting option in its place. Only in that case can we look for the antonym of the secondary meaning which is 'scurry'. Anyway, if there is an official answer please do post the same. Cheerio! ![]() |

The OA is A.
But I still insist on my opinion. Because slouch have twofold meaning. as a noun. 1 a : an awkward fellow : LOUT b : one that is unimpressive; especially : a lazy or incompetent person ? used in negative constructions *was no slouch at cooking* 2 : a gait or posture characterized by an ungainly stooping of the head and shoulders or excessive relaxation of body muscles as a verb: intransitive verb 1 : to walk, stand, or sit with a slouch : assume a slouch 2 : DROOP 3 : to go or move slowly or reluctantly transitive verb : to cause to droop *slouched his shoulders* since the question is asking his meaning of verb, which is easy seeing from the option, So scurry would be better, and rather, A is just a illusion. |

Yes, even if you take the 3rd meaning of Slouch, which is "to move slowly, and reluctantly", the opposite should be sth expressing "to move fast and willingly" (+ve attitude). The key word in this definition is not "slowly" but "reluctantly". "Scurry" may mean moving fast, but with negative nuance of attitude.
In my opinion all three meanings of "Slouch" express the same attitude. And that makes sense. |
