adjudication : trial...?
Adjudication : Trial
a. Postlude : symphony b. forecast : weather c. footnote : report d. misdemeanor : felony e. prognosis: surgery SPOILER: OA : E. Explanation : prognosis could be at the end of surgery, about the success or failure of it and the future course the patient takes. I can't accept it as I cannot find such a meaning for prognosis. I would rather go with surgery is a result of prognosis. Would postlude : symphony (x happens at end of y) would work? Please let me know your opinion. |

Is 'E' an OA or your best guess? I'm surprised if it's an OA: The bridge I formed for the question was "x is the conclusion of a y". 'A' fits best there, I think, because a 'prognosis' does not necessarily follow a surgery (it usually relates to the forecasting of an illness) -- though I did also entertain that choice. I actually did not know the meaning of a "postlude", but guessed it after POE and based upon its prefix ("post-"). From looking it up, it seems appropriate. What do others think? And may I ask where you got the question?
EDIT: From a quick search, I see that the question comes from Peterson's Master the GRE 2009. The OA is indeed 'E', with the bridge outlined in the text being: "An x is a pronouncement of the outcome, or result, of a y." I will say that I have reservations with the answer, but it seems fair enough. |

Postlude : Symphony (X happens at the end of Y) does look appropriate as surgery happens as a result of prognosis and not the vice-versa.
Postlude is the conclusion and adjudication is also the conclusion. i would go with choice A. |
