Most Important discoveries or creations are accidental; it is usually while seeking the answer to one question that we come across the answer to another.

Important discoveries and creations are outcomes of dedicated research by extremely ingenious and hardworking people. The situation leading to the discovery can be encountered accidentally but the discovery or creation itself is the result of intelligent and laborious research.

It is usually while seeking answers to one question that we come across another question but unless we research to find the answer, a discovery cannot be made. There are numerous research students researching on various things. They come across a lot of new situations, but there are only a few who further investigate on that situation. The others might just dismiss it as unknown. Most researchers are unaware of the fact that they could have made an important discovery because they do not pursue the situation once they come across something totally unknown. For example long before radioactivity was discovered, a scientist had accidentally come across it, but he had not researched it further. This scientist had to stop his work due to lack of sunlight and had kept his photographic film wrapped in uranium. The film had got exposed proving that uranium was a source of energy. It was several years later that another group of scientists had taken up research and established radioactivity.

It is said that Newton accidentally discovered gravity. Newton was lying under a tree and it was by accident that an apple fell on him but it was not an accident that he started thinking of the reason behind the falling of the apple. Many people before him might have seen an apple falling but they did not think of the reason behind it and just accepted it as something that happens naturally. It was Newton’s ingenious mind that made the discovery of gravity possible. It was the ingenious mind of the Wright brothers, which made them think of the reason that makes the birds fly. The Wright brothers strived to make an object that will have the capability to fly. Eventually their research led to the discovery of the airplane. Laborious research over several years by continual generations of scientist led to discovery of magnetism, electromagnetism, space technology, medicine etc.

Accidents can only make us encounter an unknown situation but a discovery is the result of pursuing the cause of that situation and this requires exceptional intelligence and hard work.
