argument - construction on wildlife area ...please evaluate (one day to go for GRE)

“The Smith Corporation should not be permitted to develop the
land that is now part of the Youngtown Wildlife Preserve. This
sanctuary is essential to the survival of the 300 bird species
that live in our area. Although only a small percentage of the land
will be sold to Smith, the proposed development will have disastrous
consequences for our area. The company plans to build a small hotel on
the land. Although they have promised to ensure the preservation of
the sanctuary, there is no way that their plans will do anything but
harm the sanctuary. There are no circumstances under which this sale
will benefit out community, which relies on tourists who visit
primarily to see our magnificent bird population.”

Articles or arguments related to environment and wildlife are generally persuasive and tend to seek attention of
the reader as mostly every conscious citizen knows the importance of preserving ecosystem, especially when it is
a matter of "ecosystem" versus "development" it becomes a mootable topic of discussion.

Here in his argument ,the writer is trying to persuade the readers to voice their objection against the building of a
hotel by smith corporation on the ground reserved for the birds in the Youngtown Wildlife Preserve .Although author tries
to raise some concerned points like destruction of wildlife as a result of the construction, reduction in number of
tourist etc but somehow his writing lacks a cogency.

one of the main fallacy in his argument is that he is contracdicting his own speech by adding that "smith corporation"
will be taking away just a small percentage of land and also company has promised to ensure the preservation of sanctuary.
Author has just written that "it will have a disastrous consequences but there is no such reason mentioned about how
the wild life will be affected by the building of hotel ,he must have given some relevant "ecological reasons" by which
the habitat of birds would have been hampered due to construction work.

He has raised the issue regarding the reduction in number of tourist which sounds quite immature. yes, bird sanctuary
attracts tourist but moreover hotels provides shelter along with luxuries to the tourists ,so in a way building hotel is
contributing to the attraction of tourist. In a way ,building hotel will catch more tourist which will further benifit the
community. Moreover company has promised to ensure the preservation of sanctuary .In the conclusion of his speech ,he
seems to draw premature implications of an event without having firm reasons to prove his points. He should have researched
and taken information from the ecologist on topic such as how the ecosystem will be effected due to the same and
he should have jotted those points in his writting .This would have given more strength to his speech.

Development and ecosystem maintenance are two very crucial topics which are to be dealt with prudence . Yes, ecosystem
needs to be preserved but if a balance is maintained between the development and ecosystem maintenance then we would be able
to succeed in both, preservation of ecosystem and development of society . After all "Balance" is the virtue of nature
