"A nationwide survey reveals that a sizeable majority of men would like
to see additional sports programs on television. After television
station WACK increased its sports broadcasts, its share of the
television audience in its viewing area almost doubled. To gain a
larger audience share in our area, and thus increase company profits,
KICK should also revise its broadcast schedule to include more sports
coverage."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every man has a penchant for watching sports related programs and to
gossip about these activities is considered as most favourite past time
by this strata of society. This assertion is also verified by national
survey which shows that a "majority" of men watch sports
programmes.WACK station duly responded to this survey by increasing the
amount of sports programmes it telecasted and reaped profits due to
this.So at first glance, KICK responding to the same seems a pretty
obvious decision. But, if one were to think deeply on this matter one
might be inclined to conclude that it is a blatant decision which has
no firm ground and can leave station in a jeopardazied situation.

First and the most important point ignored in the given excrept is
diverisified human nature of thinking. It is well known that no two
human beings think alike. So to assume that people, living in the
region where programs of KICK are telecasted, will like sports programs
is just an asumption with no definite grounds to support it. It is
wrong to draw conclusions from the likings of people of a certain
region and to assume that a certain other region will have same
likings. This point alone can prove disaster to station's plan because
its the people's choice of a specific region which ensures success of
TV station. And if people are not getting what they require, then TV
station can be in a lot of trouble.

Another thing which is very obscure in the given passage is no mention
of any kind of statistical data."Sizeabe majority" , "doubled profits"
are some of the terms which can be very decieving. To base your
assumptions on such eluding data is very foolish which is entirely not
acceptable from such a big profession like TV station.

Last but not the least, there is no mention of any specific sport that
would have been catching the attention of the people. If KICK were to
go by its decision and it has to show sports programmes then there is
no mention of the sports it must telecast so that it can result in a
profitable decision. To telecast those sprots programmes which do not
carry any interest in general public is a grave fatuous act.

In concise, it can be said that the excrept provided includes a
decision that has many inherent flaws. Survey of specific region should
be conducted and it should be found out what people of that region
want. More statistical data should be provided and detailed analysis of
profits of WACK should be made so as to ascertain the reason behind the
increase in profits of WACK station. These should be considered by the
respective authorities at its earliest if they want to make their
station as competent as WACK and if the want to reap profits from their
decision.
