Post Are the citizens of Forsythe following a healthier lifestyle?

Hi guys (and of course gals),
Please comment!!!!!!!!!!! Even a single word will go a long way- just write bad that will be all right!

The citizens of Forsythe have adopted healthier lifestyles. Their responses to a recent survey show that in their eating habits they conform more closely to government nutritional recommendations than they did ten years ago. Furthermore, there has been a fourfold increase in sales of food products containing kiran, a substance that a scientific study has shown reduces cholesterol. This trend is also evident in reduced sales of sulia, a food that few of the healthiest citizens regularly eat.

This argument concludes that the people of Forsythe have embraced a healthier lifestyle. This conclusion implicitly assumes that healthy lifestyle can be equated to eating healthy food, and to prove that people of Forsythe have been eating healthy food it a few facts have been used which however fail to ascertain the point. I see several loose ends in the conclusion.

For one, healthy lifestyle does mean eating healthy food. However, it is just one aspect of healthy lifestyle, others include regular exercise, adequate sleep, and moderate work load and stress etc. So, even if the people at Forsythe have started to eat healthier food, they might have adopted other behavior which turns their overall lifestyle less healthy. For example, if over the years more and more people have started to take clerical jobs and have stopped doing regular exercise, their lifestyle may be overall unhealthy. Similarly, if the people are now working long hours and live in stress due to the job, then again their lifestyle may have deteriorated in quality.

For the other, even if we think that a healthy lifestyle is synonymous with eating healthy food, the passage fails to prove that inhabitants of Forsythe are indeed eating healthy food. In this regard, all the three facts provided are refutable.

First, following government’s nutritional recommendations does not necessarily mean eating a wholesome food. Sometimes the government’s recommendations are outdated. Our understanding of ourselves is not complete: each year several papers are produced that ask us to modify the nutritional recommendations. If the government has not kept its recommendations in line with the new research findings, then following the its recommendations is not enough for a healthy life. Moreover, the government recommendations does not list each and every ingredients that should not be taken. If one takes all the things that should be taken but takes others that are harmful in addition then overall he may still be taking an unhealthy intake.

Second, cholestral may be bad. But not taking kiran is not a foolproof proof of the fact that no cholestral is being taken. If one avoids kiran but takes ‘miran’ that does possess cholestral then one is still taking cholestral and being harmed by it.

In the same vein, not eating a thing that is not eaten by healthy people does not mean eating a healthy food. For example, those people who do not eat sulia might be eating other foods that are not taken by the healthiest people. Moreover, just the fact that healthiest people do not eat sulia does not make it an unhealthy thing or healthy thing.

In summary, the conclusion’s premise that a healthy food is what one needs to adopt a healthy lifestyle is flawed. Moreover, the passage fails to prove conclusively that the people at Forsythe have indeed adopted healthy food. These facts combined make the conclusion unconvincing.
