"Only once one has known real sadness can one feel true happiness"

One may feel sadness from such things as losing a loved one or losing a job. THrough such trials, the person affected climbs slowly up the ladder of hardship to a happier future. Yes, it is possible for people to find what true happiness is after going through a hard ordeal. However, this is definitely not the only way one can experience what true happiness is. There are multiple ways that one can have joyous experiences.

When a mother and a father welcome a child into the world for the very first time, or even subsequent times after that, a feeling of joy envelopes them like none they have ever experienced before. True, the labor process is a tedious and trying experience, but surely no one would consider the process as a whole sad or gloomy.

When someone works on a project for work or personal study, they go through a period of emotional stress, and sometimes anger. When it is finished, and they reap the rewards of their hard work, the feeling of accomplishment gives them a form of true happiness for being rewarded after putting forth their best effort. Although the process is still classified as difficult, it would be strange to call it a 'sad' one.

In the end, one can find happiness from many different outlets. Going through hardships and feeling sorrow for either committing a wrongful act can lead to a repentant heart and eventual freedom of guilt. This causes peace and happiness of heart and mind just as much as someone who has given their all to a test of will, or even a trying marathon. Therefore, the statement that finding true happiness is limited to overcoming sadness is a bit of a naiive and limited point of view that needs to be reconsidered.
