msb2012
Hi, this is my first essay, and I'm not English native speaker :) my essay contains of 500 words exactly. "people most respect the powerful not when they exercise their power, but when they refrain from exercising it" Is exercising powerful a respected behavior? When talking about powerful, it's the ultimate ability to do or take a decision which can effect another side, here is the conflict between people whether it's good or bad behavior, respectable or not. Exercising power is very simple when a person under angry pressure. However, refraining the use of power seems very difficult in a while, when a person get used of it, it's going to be easier, and he will feel better when he avoid the use of power, use of power means destroying, refraining it means building and affecting on the other side, here the person get the respect from people. For instance, In 2002 AlQaeda started it operations in Saudi Arabia, exploding building and killing guards, at that time the Minister of Interior Prince Nayef was in charge to stop this operations whatever it costs, everyone at that time thought about the power, the military choice, it was very simple to destroy AlQaeda members in Saudi Arabia, Prince Nayef chose to avoid the use of power and started to contact the Saudi young members in AlQaeda via multiple mediums. Media, messages, calls and use of AlQaeda old members to persuade these people to leave this operations and to inform them about AlQaeda bad objectives, that results to get back a lot of AlQaeda Saudi members back to the right way and leave AlQaeda, and they started a new life as a good and useful men to their country, and this great decision surprised the world and the prince got the respect after the great results which defeated AlQaeda in Saudi Arabia. While going more depth to the personal life, when an employee made a terrible mistake which may cause the company a lot, the manager has the ability now to make his choice, he can fire the employee and hire a new one, nothing will be changed, he is already effected because of this mistake, firing the employee will not get anything back, and the new employee may make a mistake in the future. In the other hand, If he met the employee and asked him to admit the mistake, and started to explain the mistake the employee did, and how to avoid this mistake in the future, here the manager developed his employee, the chance to make this mistake in the future is minimized because he is experienced now, here we see the benefit of avoiding the use of power. In conclusion, the above examples explain the difference of the both behaviors, and the result if the powerful person choose anyone of them, as mentioned the exercising of power is needed at the time of problem, when the person think for a while, it will be clear that it's the wrong choice, refraining it may not fix everything but at least it will minimize the effects of any mistake, and it will give the experience for the side which made the mistake, and here this behavior is respected.
