Thank you ;)

TOPIC : The best way for the society to prepare the young people of today for leadership positions in government, industry or other fields, is by instilling in them a sense of cooperation and not competition.

The world of today is fast paced, with dynamic changes happening in seconds, well connected such that 21st century Earth is not a conglomerate of solitary islands anymore but an eclectic mix of more connected people from diffrent parts of the world. The youth of today has been placed with the responsibility of leading the future world which has already shown signs of deterioration both environmentally and socially too, therefore it would benefit if the youth today are nurtured with a sense of cooperation more than competition.

We already know the prodigies of the youth are always hungry for more, they have the innate potential to stir up the people and take notice of their actions. When passing on the baton of leadership, it would benefit if the youth are more cooperative. Cooperation between countries has always lead to better assessment of problems, better governance, efficient technology exchange and has broken the barriers of information exchange both socially and culturally. Consider the unions like SAARC(South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) which is an alliance of the South Asian nations , and has till now some significat achievements. For example, scientists from India and Pakistan have joined hands together in realizing the hydroelectric potential in the mountainous state of Bhutan and have so far has led to the electrification of hundred villages in this rough terrain. Similarly the United Nations(UN) has succeedded through cooperation at the international level in averting wars at an international level, in resolving disputes by arbitration, disllowing human rights viloations in remote areas etc and have been rightly called as harbringers of peace. Certainly a competition based approach would lead to more infighting among countries, considering the reason behind the Gulf War in the late 20th century. Given that our planet is facing a severe dearth of natural resources like coal, water etc we all need to join hands to come up with feasible solutions, and share technology to tackle this inevitable problem at hand, and not compete about them.

Similarly in the corporate side, if company leaders coorperate with each other in reducing their carbon footprint by sharing efficient technologies at a common platform, it would be a better place to live. Though we have to agree that a sense of competition always brings out the best in you, it is a kind of positive reinforcement which drives you to achieve your goal, but the competition should be directed with oneself and not with others. Considering the US-Russia Cold war where to achieve military and technological superiority, both countries competed fiercely with each other, though it did bolster the economy, augmented the resources, but there wer more deleterious effects than the benficial ones, as peace was non existent. In such times, a hand or two in cooperation will better serve the purpose.

In conclusion it is important to say that young leaders of today have to be nurtured with a sense of cooperation, given there is a great deal of responsibility on their shoulders, which can be fulfilled with support from your peers and additionallly a sense of competition with oneself to drive you toward your destination.
