P.S.: A score out of 6 would be wonderful!

Some people believe that teaching morality should be the foundation of education. Others believe that teaching a foundation of logical reasoning would do more to produce a moral society.

Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented above.

Morality is an important characteristic of human nature which has enabled humans to survive and prosper in large societies, and work for the greater good. I believe morality should take precedence over logic when it comes to education of children, though logic can supplement as it has it's own place in the human society.

There are many actions which are destructive and perfectly logical from one's perspective, like wars. If you have a scarce resource, and there are several competing participants for it, then it is logical from the perspective of each individual participant to give his best shot so that the winner takes all. Here is where morality comes into play. Moral decisions involve taking the scarce resource and dividing it equally among the involved parties, which later lead to the greater good. Developing a habit of sharing in children will enable them to make peaceful and mutually benefical ties with other adults, giving a boost to their future.

Morality is something which can only be taught to children when they are at their most impressionable age. If they grow up and see the horrors of the outside world, without a moral background, they will never be able to seperate right from wrong. They will believe the poor are poor because of their lack of value to the society, and the rich because of thier wealth are more valuable. They will tend to confuse recognition as contribution, which is very dangerous to the progress of the human society.

Logic, on the other hand, can be developed in people throughout their life, and it comes of great use as a supplement to morality in order to deconstruct more complex situations. Thus, while it cannot replace morality, it should have it's own place in the child's education. For example, the Israel-Palestine conflict is a complex situation which is handled by officials trained well in the matters of seeing thing from both perspectives.

A good sense of right and wrong is also important in the paradigm of scientific progress. Knowing the importance of respecting other people's work is an important trait in the field, where there are many who try to pass off other's work as their own. This impedes scientific though and innovation and thus, the edification of the human race as a whole. Today's scientific challenges are extraordinary and require global teamwork. People should know to contribute equally and not rest on the hard work of others. This sense of responsibility is also necessary to ingrain in children at an early age.

Thus, we can conclude that a moral foundation is indispensable for education. Logic is a trait that is important, too, but only as a supplement to moral reasoning, not as a substitute. Teaching our children the difference between right and wrong is absolutely necessary in today's world.
