"Although it is easy to respond positively to the work of another person or group, it is far more worthwhile to give negative feedback."

Comments on others¡¦ work or performance are of utmost importance for further improvement. However, the degree of effectiveness of delivering such comments to those involved is the focus for this discussion. A positive feedback can certainly make the learning environment better and give confidence to the listener, but it lacks different views which may give room for the listener to analyze. In contrast, a negative response may force that person to think in another way, though the ideas or comments may not be accepted finally. The respondents must have enough communication techniques for giving such responses, otherwise, an opposite consequences may result.

Psychologists always say that recognizing what the children do is an important process to their life. By doing so, they can become a confident person who are willing to express ideas. Besides, giving positive responses allow the listeners to enjoy the learning process, and act as a driving force to push them to do better next time. The warm atmosphere encourages them to express their opinion freely without censures by the others. However, one must note that one¡¦s perspectives on the same issue are limited due to his/ her ability and knowledge.

Negative responses, if handled properly, can give positive results. Since information is overwhelming everywhere, sharing of knowledge becomes a facilitator in learning. Otherwise, there are no more debates. If the respondents handled it carefully, it can give room for the person or the group to interpret, analyze, improve and respond to these. Next time, that person will absolutely avoid similar mistakes or even improve further on top of the negative comments. Similar to the accumulation of knowledge in the field of economics, Keynesian may think that government should play an active role in order to achieve the equilibrium point whilst the new classical economists think that the market should be controlled by the price mechanism. The fierce arguments through years leave us a fruitful base to make further improvement in this field. We cannot deny that if people can view the negative responses positively, a value-added outcome will be resulted.

However, if you let the listeners regard the negative responses as fulmination or discrimination, it may become a disaster. It may be fine if that person is an optimistic person. However, if he/ she is not confident in themselves in the first place, this kind of response may lower their self-esteem. More seriously, they may lose their confidence and refuse to improve or go ahead.

Overall, if the respondents are open-minded enough, it is really better to have constructive negative responses than just positive ones. In most of the case, it is practical to have both kinds of responses in order to achieve a balance and create a comfortable learning atmosphere for both parties. In sum, both are important to human development.

Anticipating your reviews....

"Although it is easy to respond positively to the work of another person or group, it is far more worthwhile to give negative feedback."

Any individual can give positive feedbacks on somebody’s work. It requires no scrutiny. If the over all concepts are almost clear, anyone can easily say ‘You are right’. In doing so, the confidence of the author may increase, but not his progress.

Mostly, people put their sincere efforts to make them impeccable. As a result, many of them do not like to accept negative critiques on their work. On the other hand, it is very difficult to pin point the negative feedbacks. Moreover, the reviewer has to analyze their work with vehement attention.

Negative feedbacks encourage the author to think in contrary to his proposed ideas, thereby he is encountered with a new set of possibilities and explanations. This will enable him to improve further and to view things in different perspectives or angles. In effect, this ensures the overall performance of the groups/individual.

The negative reviews must be taken as a feedback to accept one’s flaws and improve accordingly. They should not create a negative impact on our attitude towards work.

Neither should the negative feedbacks be too harsh nor intended to insult. The comments should be so emphasized that a friendly and healthy relation between the reviewer and the author is not lost.

The negative feedback by a Council member regarding the methodology of garbage disposal adopted by the Mayor of City Corp. is a classic example that fits in such a context. Had he not received such criticism , he would have never thought about an alternate method. With this, they devised a systematic, economical and effective way for expurgating the same.

To sum up, the negative feedbacks should aim at improving the intellect and reasoning skills of an individual without deteriorating the positive attitude towards work.

Any suggestions please----------------------

"Although it is easy to respond positively to the work of another person or group, it is far more worthwhile to give negative feedback."

Feedback is the society's response to what we do. Sometimes we don’t need it, still we get it. And sometimes it’s vice versa.

At extremes both positive and negative feedbacks are detrimental for the person for whom they are meant. Too much of negative feedback means harsh criticism and insult. Too much positive feedback amount to fawning.

Somewhere a balance is needed between the two. This is because both of them are having their positive and negative aspects just like the two sides of a coin.

Positive feedback doesn’t require any knowledge of the subject or attention. We sometimes do tell people "Yeah! You are right”, without actually paying any heed to what they are saying or weather we have any idea about the subject they are talking about. Whereas negative feedback requires us to have a thorough knowledge of the subject and it needs that we pay attention to the work.

Positive feedback boosts the confidence of a person, increases his drive to do a project and foster the relationship. So may times we are stuck in a project and feel frustrated, but two nice words from someone like "U are moving at a nice pace" or "Whatever u have done till now, is good" makes us feel so happy and positive. This also strengthens our bond with that person.

Whereas negative feedback can sometimes bring our moral down and we won’t feel like doing the work again. Suppose your friend asks u to don some work and you do it , but what he tells you is "What is this ! Can’t you do a single job properly?” How do we respond we feel repulsive, irritated and might just put an end to it . We might is some cases reply "Forget it! Do it yourself!".

Thinking about this one might feel that positive feedback is better. But positive feedback also has a disadvantage .It sometimes hampers growth and makes the receiver arrogant.

Think about this: You do some work and all people say that it’s perfect. Would you realize that it might be having some flaws? Would you try to study your work carefully?

In fact, you might generate the idea that whatever you do is perfect and that will bloat your pride.

A discussion forum is a typical example. If all the members there say your works and views are great. Would you ever try to improve upon your work or reconsider your views? No!

Whereas its because of the negative feedback that we get from our colleagues here that makes us realize our mistake and we try to improve upon them.

So actually it’s the negative feedback which makes us grow. Makes us realize the fallacies of our work.

But too much of negative feedback, it become criticism. If u get a lot of it from someone u will develop a feeling of hostility towards that person. On the others side too much of positive feedback and we get specious of that person, his motives and his knowledge about the subject.

Also it depends on the stage of the work (In sense of its development and growth towards the aim).Think of a small baby who is just learning to write. He receives praise even if he makes the ugliest 'A' after 100 attempts. But then when then the same baby becomes a kid and goes to school. He will get a bitter scolding for that.

Basically, at the start of a certain work it’s the positive feedback that nurtures growth and development, whereas in later stages it hampers it. For the case of negative feedback its the opposite.

In all a balance is required between the two. Moderation is the name of the game.

My response:

Proponents of negative feedbacks have long touted the advantages of harsh criticizms. However a closer examination of such negative feedbacks reveal that they can be an impediment to a person's morale and severely curb his enthusiasm and confidence. Thus a negative feeedback is worthwhile depending on the nature of the person or work.

First of all, children are the most sensitive to negative feedbacks. There are a few precocious ones who might take it in the right sense.Unfortunately most youngsters are very sensitive.Hence a negative feedback would definitely hamper the progress and confidence of a child. It is imperative that guardians, elders and teachers provide any negative remaks in the most subtle manner to avoid demotivating the child. The same is applicable for a tenager who is even more sensitive to such negative remarks.Of course one is not trying to imply that the child should be praised no matter what mistakes it makes. But it is worthwhile to give a more positive feedback than a negative one.

In the case of a working professional the situation changes completely. Here there are a number of factors which are at stake. They include company reputation and finance. As a result providing a more negative feedback is better for the individual.Admittedly an important factor cannot be overlooked, which is encouragement.Support at the work-place is very essential.Sadly man has more ego that humility. As a worker he is aware of his misgivings and assets .With harsh negative feedbacks his work and output might get effected. When a balanced feedback is recieved, there are bound to be improvements. However a negative feedback becomes inevitable when the member of a group is truly useless.Such cases are quite rare. But when a company repuation is involved it might be more worthwhile to give a negative feedback.

Undoubtedly it is far easier to react positively to the work of another individual. It is very difficult to point out fallacies and specious resoning in a persons argument. However, the individual providing such insight needs to be conservative in his feedback. At the work-place relationships are neutral. It is important that they remain that way for a better working environment.Hence to prevent confrontations negative feedbacks should be given as mildly as possible and with a solution.Otherwise such feedbacks prove futile.A severe negative remark with no alternatives might put the person at a disadvantage. If the negative remarks involve insignificant setbacks they need not be mentioned at all.

The entire concept of providing negative feedback changes depending on the proximity of the people involved. The closer the indivdiuals are the more negative the remarks can be.But such encounters are not worthwhile in a workplace.Although the the real advantages of negative feedbacks are apparent, they prove to be more damaging in the long run.The psychological barriers and low self-esteem it can create can be catastrophic.A more diplomatic approach is not only beneficial but it also provides stronger outputs.

240 Although it is easy to respond positively to the work of another person or group, it is far more worthwhile to give negative feedback.

I admit that it is easy to give positive appreciation for someone’s work rather than criticizing it. But sometimes it is worthwhile to respond negatively, since that will withhold that person from performing the same mistake. As per my opinion, undue praise or criticism can attribute to deleterious effects. Thus appropriate feedback should be given as per requirement.

Indisputably, positive admiration is an indispensable need for enhancing confidence and morale for performing task more accurately and positively. But, sometimes it is the case that people starts adulating the work even though they hardly possess knowledge about it. Thus even if the work has any flaws, it will never be determined and the person or group performing that work will assume themselves to be genius. Always, one should aware of such sycophants.

Moreover, negative feedback can be proved fruitful if it is given in positive manner and without hurting someone’s feelings. Negative feedback sometimes plays cardinal role in boosting up one’s spirit. Because accepting the negation as challenge, one can try to perform the opus with more efforts and attention so that it will be perfect and flawless. However, sometimes few people quote their harsh criticism for some person’s work because of their hostile feelings about him. Such undue carping can prove to discourage that person and lower down his spirit to perform any work.

Undoubtedly, it is far easier to react with positive response to someone’s work. At the same time it seems hard enough to find out the error in the task along with appropriate reasoning, because consequences of such criticism can be positive or negative. Hence to avoid such conflicts negative feedbacks should be given as mildly and positively as possible and with a solution. Otherwise such feedbacks prove futile. A severe negative remark with no alternatives might put the person at a disadvantage. If the negative remarks involve insignificant setbacks they need not be mentioned at all.

In sum, it is essential to achieve equilibrium between positive and negative feedback. It is sure that responding positively is much easier that quoting negative opinion about the work performed by a person or any group of people. Sometimes it is beneficial for that person or for the company to point out mistakes in the work rather than accepting positively the faults in the work.

"Although it is easy to respond positively to the work of another person or group, it is far more worthwhile to give negative feedback."

=======================================================

It is difficult to categorize response to the work of another person or group to be positive or negative. For example, a person patiently and sincerely point out many flaws in the work of another person or group and give many good advice for improvement. Is the response positive or negative? Another example is that a person very envied about the success work of another person or group and try to defame the work because he realize the work is perfect and he can never reach. Is the response positive or negative?

In fact, there are two elements in the response to the work of another person. One is the evaluation of the work itself, and another is attitude toward the person who finish the work. Objectively we can realize if the work is good or bad, and sometimes can point out its flaws even give some advise suggest to improve. But at the same time, we link the work with person or group who finish it. The combination of the work and the person drive us make different responses. If the person is not familiar with us , usually we comment that the work is well done regardless how much flaws in it. If the person is our friends or brothers, we tend to give well-meaning advice. These two kinds of response maybe can be defined as positive but the first one is effectiveless to the work. At last, if the person is the man we dislike, we tend to show negative attitudes: scoff, scorn, envy and so on.

The issue mentioned that it is easy to respond positively to the work of others. I think it means the first kind of response: work done by person no business of us. In fact, we care not about the work, so we tend to give positive respond politely. This kind of response often easy done but have no any values.

Person who done the work need advices. That is flaws can not be discovered by himself. In most cases, if we point out the flaws, our comments maybe are negative but our attitude can be positive. But how to define our feedback? A negative feedback? or a positive feedback ? Different people has different reaction to the feedback which depend on if he is open-minded.

Nobody welcome the last kind of response: scoff, scorn, envy, ets. because it is for the person not for the work. It is no business of the work. In fact, regardless how perfect you done or how awkward the work is, negative attitude can be given.

On the other hand, attitude are not fixed. The attitude to the person also can be influenced by the work he has done. People tend to give the person done awkward work negative attitude and give the person done perfect work positive attitude. It useful to realize that even we have negative evalution we should also take positive attitude. People hate scorn and want patience.

In sum, people usually welcome positive evaluation with positive attitude but is it useless. Nobody like any evaluation with negative attitude. The problem is that how to treat negative evaluation with positive attitude. If we think it is positive, we can improve our work, otherwise we will miss the worthwhile feedback.
