first essay

"As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate"

Development and advancement of the technology to solve particular problems also requires human brain. It is the human thought that he has devised such technology. Technology has advanced so much that it can help solve many problems quickly and easily but human mental power is still required to get the problem solved from the technology. Hence, I do not think that with the advancement of technology, the ability of humans to think for themselves will deteriorate.

Internet is one such technology that humans have created that is used for so many purposes and solves huge number of problems. Internet is used to communicate, to search for data, as well as it is great source of entertainment. As a source of communication, people sitting at different corners of world can exchange information and socialize using internet. Initially it required people to travel long distanced which cost huge amount money and time. As a source of data, humans can search any information they require in a matter of few minutes. Scientists can look for previous work done in their field and housewives can search for recipes. Earlier it was required to own huge number of books or go to libraries to find particular information. So, it is the human proactive thought for his own benefit that he devised such technologies and made his life easier.

Another example of a technology is computer. A computer can be used as a storehouse for data, a tool to do huge calculations, and also to produce further software. Computer can be used to store a huge range of data and also data that exists in different formats. For e.g one can store documented files, images, and also video files. Traditionally it used to be stored as a hardcopy (on paper) and storage used to be difficult as the files would deteriorate (at least the quality of files). Computer can also be used as a tool to do calculations. For e.g., a companies’ complete financial report can be prepared on computer which if prepared on paper would take a lot of time. Also computer can be used to prepare further software(s) which could be used to solve further problems. For e.g., now we have software(s) for decision analysis which can help us make sound decisions.

Some people might argue that by invention of some technologies, humans have made themselves get rid off the effort of doing things with hands (or physical effort). However, I would contend that by doing so they have made their tasks quicker and easier. And as far as physical exercise is required, humans have developed for themselves some machines where they can do exercises and exert some physical effort. Again, it is the human thought for themselves that they have devised such machines.

Hence, I would like to conclude that if humans are relying more and more on technology to solve problem, it is just to make problem solving process easier and quicker for themselves. Humans have invented these technologies and it is the human thought for themselves that they were able to come up with these great inventions.

Hey Ruchia,
I liked the way you broke down the essay. I loved the introduction. I think you approached the use of internet and computers very effectively. However, I think there were a couple of fragmented sentences in the essay. May be you should run the essay through MS word before to detect fragmented sentences. Also you might want to provide an anecdote or two to liven up the tone of the essay.

Thanks... for your comments and suggestions. Actually I wrote the essay on MS Word only. Could you please indicate where do I need to correct the sentences.
Once again - Thanks!
