First AWA issue task

i planned to get this writing graded by scoreitnow but i think i did not master AWA yet, so i decided to share it with you

"It is unfortunate that today's educators place so much emphasis on finding out what students want to include in the curriculum and then giving it to them. It is the educators' duty to determine the curriculum and the students' duty to study what is presented to them."

 

"It is the educators’ duty to determine the curriculum and the students' duty to study what is presented to them" is a generalized statement that should be studied carefully. During past decades, education had been delivered in the typical way that is guided entirely by the provider or educator. It is illogical to claim that what was happening in the past is totally incorrect. On the other hand, there were some aspects in the past that can be modified regarding who determines the educational content. It is still the educator's duty to determine the curriculum, but there are instances where it is either partly or completely the student's duty to do so.

In most occasions, educators should be the principle reference to determine what to be delivered to students. They have spent more time, compared to students, in the field with more experiences and mistakes. They know what would benefit students the most and what issues may not add much to their backgrounds. On the contrary, students may be considered "blind", when compared to educators in this specific field, and may encounter mistakes and obstacles that could be avoided when educators choose what they should learn. Also, they should learn from the last point their educators have reached and not waste time on issues that would consume time for no reason. For example, medical student may not be happy with studying medical ethics that will not affect treatment of their patient; however, the medical director definitely knows that they may encounter cases where they can be sued for not reporting an abuse or not keep patients' secretes confidential.

There are some conditions where a student may contribute to some aspects of organization of the curriculum, but not the core. This will help the educator to know their problems and difficulties and address them effectively. It improves the education process as a whole since both parties wil be satisfied: providers determine what they consider as important and students modified the way these data are presented or the timing/overall organization and distribution of the curriculum. For example, medical students may ask their educators to postpone or evenly distribute the ethics subject to/over the clinical years where they can actively practice it on patients.

Rarely, there are conditions where some kind of freedom should be provided to students. This can help students in specifically identifying their needs and choose suitable subjects. In addition, it widens their scope and involves them in thinking instead of just receiving what their educators have already determined. A good example of this is to give medical students the chance to choose limited number of electives to discover areas where they are weak or interested in.

In conclusion, it is mostly the educators' duty to determine the curriculum and the students' duty to study what is presented to them. In some occasions student can contribute to minor aspects of the curriculum but not the core, and, under certain conditions, they should be given the freedom to choose what they want. Any generalization about this issue should be avoided since it may harm more than it can benefit.
