Please rate this essay............Thanks
Hi all,
I am new to this forum. Just i want to know how far i can success in this GRE exam.I am sending this essay . can you please rate it.I don't mind if u give me low rating.Just i will improve.I know my english is very poor, but just trying to improve means i am in the beginning stages :-) "It is possible to pass laws that control or place limits on people's behavior, but legislation cannot reform human nature. Laws cannot change what is in people's hearts and minds." Passing the law ,is to control the people's behavior by imposing some rules or restrictions. Due to this , people will reflect or follow the law willingly or unwillingly. That means people may not change their minds , just they are reacting according to the law.Law is proposed to rule the society in a systematic way by correcting the peoples mistakes. But its not changing the peoples heart and nature. Through legislation we can create the piece in the society. But law cannot make it to stop the reoccurrence of violence .For example, crime has happened in one particular place then government will pass 2 not 4 section and restrict the people to allay the situation. They takes necessary actions to control it .But there is no such rule that to control the occurrence of the crime.Law cannot change their minds just control it temporarily . Legislation can do temporary action but not permanent. Find out the root cause of the crime and take the necessary action can eliminate violence ,make the society peaceful. Consider the starting stages of the human life, like from childhood and schooling days , if a student did a mistake then teacher will give punishment without explanation and they says discipline . Student doesn't know about the consequences by doing the mistakes and proper way of solution. He always fear about punishment not about mistake. This is the age where they start learning about life and see the world in proper angle. These restrictions make them angry and arrogant turns them to think in a different way. So Law always make the people to think in a correct way. Then they can change their minds and respect the law ,follow with heart. Some times , Law can also make the people to do crime.Restrictions on the people should also change according to the situations.Legislation should always make them to think and not like to follow what they said. For example ,consider the life of terrorist and robbers , Once they got imprisoned ,they cannot lead their life when they out of prison. So again they start robberies and other crime , and they start hating the society. It leads to join few more people in their group. In the prison , they should learn the value of life and find out the way to lead after their punishment. This support should give by the government. This is the law can change their minds and make them pure. Finally ,concluding by taking author's words that "It is possible to pass laws to control people's behavior temporarily.Laws should workout through the way to change the people's mind and reform the human nature. There is a proverd to say this situation that "We can take the horse near the water but we cannot make him to drink the water ". reformation of human nature makes world peaceful. Thanks |

It is possible to pass laws that control or place limits on people's behavior, but legislation cannot reform human nature. Laws cannot change what is in people's hearts and minds.
"A free society is defined by rules" Man is a social animal. Existence of man in the society is defined and shaped up by his interactions with other members of the society. The concept of self and free will plays a large part in these interactions. For example, every member of a free society is ultimately what he is defined to be - free. Yet, laws have been enacted to enforce proper interactions between members of the society. How do we explain this paradox : rules forced upon individuals to define their freedom? Freedom, upon closer look, has multiple facets. Freedom to think, freedom to act, freedom to express ..etc are different aspects. Philosophically, the only true inalienable freedom that is enjoyed by a human being is the freedom to think. Every other form of freedom - generally conferred by the society as fundamental rights and constitutional rights - are revocable. Yet, unless extreme circumstances warrant, fundamental rights are considered to be inalienable. On a larger scope, the constitutional rights define the roles and responsibilities of a citizen in a country - a country being a sovereign society and citizen being a member of it. Additionally, a member may have more restrictions put on him by the society. How effective are these restrictions to bring about some long lasting or permanent changes to human nature? Proponents of restrictions often quote that humans assimilate traits from his surroundings and man is what situations make him to be. For example, a child - often witnessing others being punished for lying and stealing - will naturally refrain from lying and stealing. But in practice, this does not happen often. The child may develop a hero worshiping attitude towards them for standing against the laws. If it had worked out as the proponents wish, there would have been no crimes in our present society - for perpetrators of crimes have been punished since time immemorial. Laws work based on the principle of retribution. In today's society, there exists a feeling in its members' minds that if brought to light and proven, one who commits crime would be punished. The fear of punishment acts as a deterring factor to commit crimes. A similar system existed throughout the history of society. Thus, laws are not meant to bring about any fundamental change to human mind, but just to restrict the outward manifestations of harmful traits - possibly harmful to self or to other members of the society - that human mind may have. And they are largely successful to achieve this objective as we experience. |

Allay the situation : Does not look good.
You say - But there is no such rule that to control the occurrence of the crime. - Actually existing rules must be enforced to do this. Rules or laws per se are ineffective to bring in any changes. will give punishment without -- bad usage. proper way of solution - bad usage. proverd : should be proverb. Good overall, needs improvement. |
