Queens English

Are we allowed to use queen's english instead of american english for the essay exam. I know this may not sound as much but the fact remains that I'm from a British English background and most of the words' spellings change subtly change for American English.

I'm from a British English background too! and i've often wondered if they penalize candidates for using British English. not just spellings, but certain phrases and sentences are also quite different.
that said, i think they do allow for minor typos and by the same token, they must surely accomodate people taking the GRE in different parts of the world...Hopefully they understand color/colour, labor/labour, favorable/favourable..etc...

I have worried about this too! There are many such words- sombre/somber, candour/candor, and so on. I guess there is a conversion formula, but I actually find it repulsive to write 'color' instead of 'colour'.
We are certain that the essay scorers follow American English. What I plan to do is do a final check on my essay and at least change the spellings of the words I can spot. I wouldn't worry about the phrases, we're supposed to write formally.

I think its a big concern for Indian students also, because the text books follow british english but they speak a mixture of american and british english.. I think we would need to workout a formula or a memo to make sure we write things in english format.. i think we would need pointout some important facts that we might need to take into consideration while writing..
