The GRE CS can serve as a PhD Qualifying Exam

If you like taking the GRE CS but have doubts about being accepted by a top 35 school, you may want to consider applying to UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) as a safety/backup school since they allow the GRE CS to serve as a PhD qualifying exam:

Quote:
The Department of Computer Science has revised the Qualifying Exam requirement effective Fall 2002. The new requirement substitutes a Computer Science "Competency Exam" for the previous Qualifying Exam. The Competency Exam is a written exam that is satisfied by successful performance on the GRE Subject Test in Computer Science. This test is to be taken by the student after joining the CS Department in coordination with the Department's Office of Student Affairs.

UIC - Computer Science
UIC ranked #59 according to USNews' 2007 list.
