I'm in Princeton, NJ. I didn't realize Wood was in lovely NJ.

Maybe Wood and I should get together for a starter later in November, sort of warming up for when we can meet you, in person, Alba! What'ya say, Wood?

Hey Hey Hey!!! I'm in NJ too! lovely??

Anyway... Are you currently going to Princeton you or the town??

Sure... After I'm done with the statement of purpose and send out all the apps through mail and online, we'll get together and laugh about the easiest exam we have ever faced.... or cry about the worst performance ...

I'm applying to Berkeley (looong shot), and if they accept me, we can go there and visit Alba to check out if these "teachers", Knuth, Karp are indeed really good.

I actually went to Princeton for a master's in (computational astro-) physics a few years ago. The local software industry lured me out of grad school and into the working world. Now I want back, for a PhD in CS this time.

I'm sure they're very good at Berkeley! They're also very good at CMU, MIT, UT-Austin and a lot of other places.

Yep... are you applying to Princeton again then? For me it would be the perfect place, since my wife works here and we don't want to lose our "only household income" (can't really classify a scholarship as an income, right?) after Sept2004!

Yes, I am applying there. My only concern is that I am interested in automated programming / executable specs / that ilk, for which Princeton isn't the strongest. What do you want to research?

Mostly theory, graph theory, operations research... Although I also have interest in parallel algorithms and distributed systems.

blah321 just joined TestMagic.
For a(n) = a(n/2)+a(n/3), let t(n) be the running time.

t(n) =t(n/2)+t(n/3) + 1 (to add the 2 subtrees - think of it as mergesort without the merging)

Isn't t(n) ~ n (probably sub-linear)? How is it log(n) ?
