    Most Effective Practice?

I have been using Kaplan's free online exams to practice. Are there better sources that are more representative of the real test?

I have been getting ~600s and it is very hard to do better for me. I excel in high level math courses, like analysis, linear algebra, ODE etc, but just hate the GRE exam.

People that have scored in the high 700s, could you give me advice about practicing?

    Thank you

The best and most accurate practice exam is Powerprep from ETS, the makers of the GRE. Though there are only 2 Powerprep tests so you may not want to use them both.

Before I can really help, I'd need to know a little more about the types of questions you are missing or if you have a pacing issue or is it just lack of attention to detail - which happens to many students in test situations.

I'm biased here...but my company, Magoosh, offers hundreds of practice questions, and all math questions have video solutions. We don't have score just yet, but it's a great source of practice material for the exam. You can try it out for free.

Thanks bhavinp, I did not know about your company. I will try it out for sure, as I just need consolidated practice questions for math which it seems your site provides.

It's hard to be specific with questions I miss; they are not in any predictable pattern since I know all the material, it is just something I either don't see in the question or a careless mistake (namely an assumption I make). It's really trivial stuff, certainly pales in comparison to higher level proofs that I have to do, but is still hard to tackle!

    Thanks again!

    Hi WorkingHard.

I was in the same boat as you 3 months ago. I have a 3.95 GPA (Math major). Given me a Stokes Thm problem and I'll solve it in minutes. But I took some GRE practice tests and bombed. Now I'm scoring over 760 consistanly with 10 minutes to spare.

Heres what I did: I bought the kaplan GRE MATH Workbook (not the general GRE book).

There are better GRE study guides out there, but with respect to the number of pages in the book this is the best.

I finished the book in one month. My score immediately went over 700 every time.

Then I just looked over the downloadable EMS math review PDF : http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/p...thPractice.pdf

Then I took a gazzillion practice exams to improve time-management.

DO NOT take the POWERPREPs until 2 weeks before your exam. It will show you almost exactly how you will score (giving you 2 weeks to fix your problems).

These are the steps I have done, and given that I come from the same problem as you it might be a good suggestion for you...

This is extremely valuable advice, thank you Karrotman for posting. I will likely buy the referenced Kaplan book and I will bookmark the ETS site. Thanks again!
