    9. The angles of a traingle are in the ratio 2;3;5. What is the measure of the smallest angle?
    A. 48
    B. 36
    C. 45
    D. 72
    E. 60
    Soln:-
    As the nagles are in the given ration, let the X is the multiple.
    then
    2X + 3X + 5X = 180
    imples X = 18.
    And hense smallest angle is 36. So the answer is B.

    12. What is the equation of a line that contains point(-3,1) and has a slope of (-2)?
    A. Y=-2X-3
    B. Y=2x+5
    C. Y= -2x+5
    D. Y=--2x+1
    E. Y= -2x-5
    Soln:-
    Equ os line is (y-y1) / (x-x1) = m
    y = m (x-x1) + y1
    this implies
    y = -2(x+3) + 1 = -2x - 5
    so the answer is E.

    15. Julie has $ 5.50 in nickels and dimes. She has five more nickels than dimes. How many dimes does she have?
    A. 30
    B. 25
    C. 20
    D. 35
    E. 40
    Soln:-
    First things first: Penny is 1 cents, nickle is 5 sents, dimes is 10 cents and quarter is 25 cents.
    Let Dimes are X. Then
    X*0.10 + (X+5)*0.05 = 5.50
    X*0.15 + 0.25 = 5.50
    X*0.15 = 5.25 => X = 525 / 15
    Results X = 35. Answer is D.

    16. There are three consecutive even integers such that the third of the three even integers is 10 more than the sum of the first and second.
    What is the third integer?
    A. -8
    B. -6
    C. -4
    D. -10
    E. -2
    Soln:-

    Using POE:
    Let third integer is -4. Then second integer is -6 and first is -8.
    sum of first and second is -14. Wow. tso -4 is the answer as it is 10 more than -14. Choise C is correct.

    Using Algebra:
    Let second even is X. then other two are (X-2) and (X+2)
    (X+2) - 10 = X + (X-2)
    X = -6
    So third integer is -4. and answer is C.

    19.At a convention of dentists, 1000 dentists are from the west coast. One hundred dentist are women; 60 of the women are not the west coast. How many male dentists are from the west coast?
    A. 850
    B. 800
    C. 900
    D. 960
    E. 940
    Soln:-

    Using POE:
    I am surprised that answer choices are not in order. Anway lets apply POE.
    Let males are 900. then there gota be 100 women from WC. But actual women from Wc are 40. It means there gota be more men from WC, infact there gota be 1000 - 60 men from WC. So answer is 960. choice D is correct.

    Using Algebra:
    Total dentist from West Cost = M + W = 1000
    women from west cost = 100 - 60 = 40
    so M = 960. Answer is D.

    20.Brian received a 10% increase in each of the last 2 yrs. His present salary is 21,780. What was his starting salary?
    A. 19,000
    B. 21,300
    C. 20,000
    D. 18,000
    E . 26,000

    Soln:-

    Using POE: As current sal is 21, 780. Starting Sal gota be less than this. And gota be approx 400 less than this.
    Eliminate, E and B. Lets start with option D.
    If starting Sal is 18,000. Then
    After first year Sal = 18,000 + 1800 = 19,800
    After Second year Sal = 19,800 + 1980 = 21,780
    so answer is D.

    Using Algebra:

    If starting sal is X. Then
    X + X/10 + [(X+X/10)/10] = 21780
    10X + X + X + X/10 = 217800
    100X + 10X + 10X + X = 2178000
    121X = 2178000 => X = 18000
    Ans is D.

    21.A florist bought some plants for 150.00. She sold enough at 75 cents each to meet the cost and had 100 plants left.
    How many plants were originally purchased by the florist?
    A. 150
    B. 250
    C. 300
    D. 350
    E. 400

    Soln:-

    Please note plants cost have to 150.00 and not 150,00.
    Using POE:
    Let plansts purshased are 300. then plantts sold at 0.75 each are 200.
    200 * 0.75 = 150.
    wow. :-)
    Answer is C.

    Using Algebra:
    Let plants bought are X.
    (X-100) * 0.75 = 150
    (X-100) * 3/4 = 150
    3/4X - 75 = 150
    X = 225 * 4 / 3 = 900 / 3 = 300
    So answer is C.
