A crazy percentage question ( any short cuts?)

For a certain farm, soybean production increased
by 25 percent from year X to year Y, and the
selling price of soybeans decreased by 25 percent
from year X to year Y. If the entire soybean
production was sold each year, approximately
what was the percent change in the revenues from
the sale of the soybeans from year X to year Y?
(A) 56% decrease
(B) 6% decrease
(C) No change
(D) 6% increase
(E) 56% increase

sale=production*selling price
=production*1.25*selling price*0.75
=production*selling price*0.94
So Answer is B.

Let x be the prodn... Let y be the selling price... then total change in revenue = xy - 1.25x*0.75y... approx 6% decrease... B

let soyabeans cost 4$ per kg
lets say 4kg's are produced in the year X
so in year Y as per given data soyabeans produced is 5
and cost per kg is 3
so ((15-16)/16)100 roughly equal to 6%

decrease by 6%

it decreased by 6% (B)

1/16 = apx 6%

I think either picking a number that is easily calulated in 4ths (like 4) or using fraction rather than percentage would be easier.

there is a formula...if increase is by x% and decrease is by x%...then there is always a decrease of (x^2/100)%...here x=25....i.e. 625/100...6%(approx)decrease...
