(B) 7/8 + 3/30
(C) 15/16 + 2/40
(D) 12/25 + 12/30

In general, compare the partner fraction with 1-fraction
1/3 < 1/2 so eliminate
3/30 is 1/10 is less than 1/8 so eliminate
2/40 is 1/20 is less than 1/16 so eliminate
12/30 is 2/5. to get 25 in denominator multiply by 5/5 to get 10/25 which is less than 13/25 so eliminate
numerator 35*3 is 105. Denominator 102 in smaller than 105, so this is answer.

If you want a structured method, simply subtract one of the terms from 1, and then compare the two sides. The option for which col A is greater than col B is the answer.

Imo, no, it is not laborious or time consuming.

For comparing the two sides, just cross-multiply i.e. to compare A/B and C/D, just compare A*D and B*C. That should reduce the time it takes to solve the question.
