    Need explanation for BB q's

    1 > A certain cake recipe states that the cake should be baked in a pan 8 inches in diameter. If Jules wants to use the recipe top make a cake of same depth but 12 inches in diameter, by what factor should he multiply the recipe ingredients?

    A : 2 1/2
    B : 2 1/4
    C : 1 1/2
    D : 1 4/9
    E : 1 1/3

    SPOILER: Official Answer : B

    2 > B4 Maria changes jobs, her salary was 24% more than Julio' salary. After Maria changed jobs, her new sal was 24% less than her old salary

    ColA: Julio's sal
    ColB : Maria's new salary

    3 > If x is the number on the number line between 5 and 15 that is twice as far from 5 as from 15, then x is:

    A : 5 2/3
    B : 10
    C : 11 2/3
    D : 12 1/2
    E : 13 1/3

    SPOILER: Official Answer : C

    4 > A distillate flows into an empty 64-gallon drum at spout A and out of the drum at spout B. If the rate of flow through A is 2 gallons/hr, how many gallons/hr must flow out at spout B so that the drum is full in exactly 96 hrs?

    A : 3/8
    B : 1/2
    C : 2/3
    D : 4/3
    E : 8/3

    SPOILER: Official Answer : D

    5 > A farmer has 2 rectangular fields. The larger field has twice the length and 4 times the width of the smaller field. If the smaller field has area K, then the area of the larger field is greater than the area of the smaller field by what amount?

    A : 2K
    B : 6K
    C : 7K
    D : 8K
    E : 12K

    SPOILER: Official Answer : C

    {I think this should be 8K. Or are we subtracting the Larger - Smaller to get the amount?}

    6 > (a+b)^2 = 49 ab = 12

    ColA : a+b
    ColB : 7

    SPOILER: Official Answer : D

    {I believe the only reason for ans being D is that we are considering +ve and -ve value when taking sqrt of a+b)^2 = 49. The data : ab = 12 is redundant!! Please confirm?}

    7 > For which of the following sets of numbers is the product of the 3 numbers less than each number of the set?

    I : 1/4 , 2/3 , 3/4
    II : -1/2 , -1 , 4
    III : -2 , 3 , 5

    A : I only
    B : II only
    C : III only
    D : I and III
    E : II and III

    SPOILER: Official Answer : D

    {Though I got this one right, I spent too much time on calculations. Is there any direct inference just by looking at these values or any trick for such q types?}

    8 > The toll for a certain bridge is $0.15 or 1 token. Tokens are sold in packs of 40 for $4.00.

    ColA : The % saved on 40 trips across the bridge if a token, rather than $0.15, is used to pay each toll.
    ColB : 66 2/3%

    SPOILER: Official Answer : B

    {I basically did not understand this problem. It will be great if someone can explain me the requirement.}

    9 > 2 Tank, X and Y, are filled to capacity with jet fuel. Tank X holds 600 gallons more than tank Y. If 100 gallons of fuel were to be pumped from each tank, tank X would then contain 3 times as much fuel as tank Y. What is the total number of gallons of fuel in the 2 full tanks?

    A : 1400
    B : 1200
    C : 1000
    D : 900
    E : 800

    SPOILER: Official Answer : A

    Note : Is it possible to include images in the post? I have a few queries involving geometry. But dunno how to include the images in the post. Can someone please help me out with this one?

    A : 1400

    D : 900
    E : 800

    from the first line....
    x=y+600
    from the second line
    x-100=3(y-100)

    after solving this we get
    y= 400
    x=400+600=1000
    so the total capacity will be 400+1000=1400 gallon

    ColB : 66 2/3%
    in column A actually we are getting 40 ticket in 4 dollar instead of 6 $ so we are saving 33% i.e. 1/3
    in column B there is 66% i.e. 2/3
    so the quantity in column B is greater than quantity in column A
    hence the answer will B

    in this question in the 2nd set there are two minus so there product will be a positive ineteger ( leave it here)
    in the 3rd set there is one minus value so the product will obviously willl be a neagative integer which will always be less than every digit in the set...
    in the first set is value is in fraction...so the total value will be very less...
    so the answer will be D 1st and 3rd only...

    May be this helps yu....

    yeah ...
    the value of sqrt of (a+b)^2 will be +ve and -ve both...
    so we cant predict the relaion
    so the answer will be D

    hey ,,,,
    obviously we have to subtract the area of smaller field from larger one...
    see the wordings of the question....(greater than the area of the smaller field by what amount)
    if it asks us how much is the area of the larger field then the answer would be D 8K

    A : 3/8
    B : 1/2
    C : 2/3
    D : 4/3
    E : 8/3

    there are two ways of solving the question... one is just formal way by looking at the question and another is solving it step by step...
    1st method...
    suppose the spout B is closed then the drum will full in 32 hrs exactly.. if we open the spout B at 1 gallon/hr then the total inflow will be 1 gallon/hr (2-1=1) so the drum will exactly fill in 64 hrs... but if we open the spout B at 2 gallons/hr then the drum will not fill at all...
    so if we have to fill the gallon in 96 hrs, the rate of the spout B must be in between 1 gallon/hr and 2 gallon/hr and there is only one answer matching.... i.e. answer D

    2nd way....

    if we have to fill the tank in 96 hrs then the total inflow rate must be 64/96 gallons/hr i.e. 2/3 gallons/ hr

    let assume the rate of spout B is x

    total inflow = inflow ( rate of spout A )- outflow ( rate of spout B )
    2/3 = 2 - x
    x=2- 2/3= 4/3
    so the answer will be D

    B : 10
    C : 11 2/3
    D : 12 1/2
    E : 13 1/3

    suppose the no is y distance from 15 then it will be on 2y distance from 5 so the distance between 5 and 15 is 3y which is equal to 10
    3y=10
    y=10/3
    so the digit x will be 10/3 less than 15
    so the answer will be 15-10/3= 35/3=11 2/3

    ColA: Julio's sal
    ColB : Maria's new salary
    lets maria's old salary was M1 and her new salary is M2 and julio's salary is J
    then...
    M1=J+0.24J=1.24J
    M2=M1-0.24M1=0.76M1
    after solving we get
    M2=0.9424J

    so we can say that maria's new salary is 94.24% of julio's salary
    so the answer will be A

    to get the answer we have to get that the new area of that cake is how much...
    the area of the small cake will be 16pi and the area of the large cake will be 36pi which is 2 1/4 times the area of the small cake..
