many politicians are characterized by an inconsistency of platform during crises,to the extent that they are rarely -------encouraging and ------
similiar behaviour in their colleagues. 1 averse to ----facilitating 2 abhorrent---forshadowing 3 confidient about ---dissuading 4 diffident in -----triggering 5 radical about ----quelling which one is the answer. |

Re: one new sc?
many politicians are characterized by an inconsistency of platform during crises,to the extent that they are ("rarely -------" = not) encouraging and ------
similiar behaviour in their colleagues. rarely ------ =not, so -------=+ve. Straight away eliminate 1,2,4. encouraging and ----------. So encouraging (+ve) = -----------(+ve) Blank 2 is +ve. Dissuading=-ve. Eliminate 3. Both blanks are +ve. So (5) is the answer. |

similiar behaviour in their colleagues. No, 5 wouldnt be correct, as one wouldnt encourage and quell something at the same time. So, (1) is correct; as politicians are not averse to(that is, they do no mind) encouraging and facilitating similar behavior as themselves, in their colleagues. |

Re: one new sc?
but what is the meaning of the "inconsistency of platform "
i puzzle a lot/ and why not 4, the encouraging and the triggering also can coexist at the same time.. Last edited by cdmy703attbn : 2004 June 29th at 11:55 AM. |

'inconsistency of platform' is the counterpart of 'rarely ... similar ... in their colleagues'
as for the answer is from 1 and 4, so the question is to distinguish between 'averse' and 'diffident' and my own view to eliminate 4 is this: inconsistency is a completely negative word, and so is averse, active repugnance while diffident is shy, hesitation, subjective, lack of self-confidence and distrust of own ability. so the problem seems to me is solved... another resolution...from a granted view, many politicians are not likely to be shy...though not pretty cogent. |

Although at first I choose C but I think the second blank doesnt fit at all.
But if we think in the negative sense then I think A suits well. Sometimes a country may be fall in crises due to the irresponsibility or corrupted nature of the politician. So in those case the public expect from other politician to say something against those repugnant politician although the politician could belongs to the same party as he belongs. But since those repugnant politician belongs to the same party as he belongs so instead of censuring those they infact encouraging or promote them more so that their personal relation becomes more intact. |
