    My answer is D
For the first blank, I crossed out E. It does not make sense in this sentence.
Turn to second blank, two pairs limited-lionized, remarkable- unknown cannot accompany in this sentence. Limited people cannot be lionized, remarkable people are definitely noticeable. So, eliminate B and C
Turn to A, the clause periodicals that offered them an opportunity... suggests that periodicals do not censure these writers. Instead, they do something nice.
The remained choice is D, which is aptly suitable for both blanks.

I will also go with option D, because the whole sentence is all about composers, writers, making a view about know music. So either the people should be with artistic or literary skills to do that. Option A is not possible because of 2nd filler. So only left out is D. Correct me if am wrong !
