The OA is C, but I think the D would be better, because the initial report which is based on the conjecture should be documented.

ignorant of the actual elements in the sentence, C and D are both plausible; however, when it comes to archaeology and tomb discovery, document doesn't fit, instead, objective or field discovery is better. Another example :

A inaccurate, perspective
B lost, digging
despite of what aspects the sentence is about, both A and B is plausible, but, to hieroglyphs, perspective is better than digging, just like this one.

Better check your OA, if credible, I think merely analyzing the logic of the sentence is not enough... a comprehension of the real meaning is also required...
