Philipskaren, I'm not sure I understand the sentence structure. Is the ",for," really on the original sentence? Would you mind doublechecking again for any spelling errors?

Let's try then....

Because of "hanging in a darkened recess" the painting was far away and therefore the perspective of it was diminished.

Would it be something on these lines?

after solving sum SC's i ve found tht sumtimes ETS blindly follows keyword rule specified in sum prep books, here's how

the painting was larger than it appeared to be,for,hanging in a darkened recess of the chapel ,it was -------- by the perspective.

Since "it was larger than appeared to be" means it actually was looking smaller.

here larger is keyword so E) Diminished (smaller) is right.
