Even if it is assumed that there's a REVOLUTIONARY (innovative) effect on the lives of workers, the mechanization has served to REINFORCE (increased, strengthen) the traditional roles of women.

"Traditional" roles of women were increased/strengthen even though there's a lot of innovative machines out there that are supposed to "help" or "diminish" the work of women.
