To berate is to scold harshly... to reprove... to reproach angrily and abusively.
The only word that fits into these thoughts is ignominiously (humiliating, degrading). You can eliminate B and E since the principal berated at a school assembly. You can eliminate. D can be eliminated due to "dismay". C (I believe you mentioned magnanismously) can look attractive but contradicts the harsh idea of the word berated! HTH ![]() |
