The ans is 1: confirmed.

here the key is despite.

Despite assorted effusion to the contrary that there is a link.......
there exists no link....finally the word 'quite possibly' is used to re-inforce or clarify...that actually there exists a dichotomy or a seperation or two opposed classes and no link...
