"Few of us take the pains to study cherished convictions; indeed, we almost have a natural repugnance to doing so."

I don't understand "our cherished convictions"? What are they?

When do we have to study cherished convictions? is it correct when we are invloved in a litigation?

sorry I have check the meaning of conviction in my dic but cannot understand the sentence.

Hi Fortune!

I think "cherished convictions" here refers to cherished beliefs (e.g. believing in a higher supernatural being such as God...in fatalism..etc) that people hold. You can find the meaning in Merriam Webster online.
