(a) monotonous .. exhaustive
(b) immutable .. extensive
(c) varied .. voluminous
(d) heterogeneous .. limited

The ans is obvious c .The " and" in the first half would imply something quite positive n similar since he had many piles of books it was voluminous and on complimentary to it,it was variegated or diverse of many genres
