Re: Are archaic/obsolete definitions tested?

I think pretty much all definitions of a word can be tested- its important to know all contexts a word can be used in...

I don't believe that - does anyone have a definitive answer?

Re: Are archaic/obsolete definitions tested?

I haven't had official word from GRE, but I cannot imagine that archaic and obsolete definitions could be tested. The point of the vocab sections (analogies, antonyms, sentence completions) is to gauge one's familiarity with written English, not one's knowledge of the history of the English language.

I vaguely recall reading something official about this years ago, but it's been so long I can't remember anymore. Anyway, I just can't imagine that these definitions would be tested, and to be honest, I'd be very surprised if any obsolete or archaic senses appeared in anything official.
