Uptodate vocabulary

Hi everyone.
I m still pretty confused about the book (and software) I have to buy/use to improve my vocabulary. If you had to improve your vocabulary in no more than 3 months, what would you suggest me to go for?
Can you please make me your personal ranking of books offering word lists?

Thanks anyone, please answer me as soon as you can......

Hi Bigduke..thanks for your answer. I have some other questions.
Where can I find the Princeton high frequency list? In which book?

What do you think about

---->"Words for Smart Test Takers ( Academic Test Preparation Series)"
---->"Kaplan GRE Verbal Workbook, 2nd Edition (Kaplan Gre Verbal Workbook)"

In your opinion are they useful?
As to the NY Times and Washington Post online, I'm afraid I won't have lot of time to spend online. What daily newspaper can you suggest me? (I live in London). Do you have any info about "The Economist" (I know it's not a daily paper....). Is it useful?

Thanks again....
Federico

Re: Uptodate vocabulary

The princeton high freq list can be found in the Princeton Review book.
As for the other two you've mentioned, I don't have a clue.
If you're in London, I think "The Telegraph" np should be good, dunno what else you get there, look up Time magazine if you can.
