Hottest Technique for vocab Building " array technique"

hi all,
this is my very first post here. I'm an Egyptian so my native is arabic. I studied english in all school years....but the GRE VOCAB has nothing to do with all words I know..... although I passed TOEFL with a score range from 213-267 and still waiting the actual score.

Now let's go into what we are all here about. "BUILDING VOCAB" as i'm from a mathematical background so i tried to develop a technique related to math for remembering words. I call it the "array technique"

to build 1400 in 16 days seems impossible.

here it's, for all non english natives specially arabians trying to remember a number of words begining with the same letter maybe somehow confusing.

so lets do it in a form of [ row * col] = [ letter * word]

1- everyday you have to remember 100 words....oh not a big deal ...most techniques say you have to remember between 80-120 w/day

2- print ur words so as they can be better studied in an easy way.

3- study 4 words for each letter /day one word for a letter( say A) then another word for another letter (say B) untill u finish all letters then start again with the first letter(say A) so u can build 100 word /day...u can start form any letter u like..... but if u do so i suggest u go for a psychaitrist also.

4- the first 6 days study 600 words 4 words of each letter everyday and repeat ALL the previous words in the next day.

5- day 7 is a very long day. u have to repeat all the 600 words 2 times. one time (all words/ letter) in the start of the day. at the end try ( 8 words/ letter) until u finish all the 600 words again.

6- this day is the day we all are waiting for RESTTTTTTTTTTTTT. completely rest from words.... u can do anything else if u want.

7- for the next weak. do the same as 1-4 steps but in the middle of the weak u have to stop and review all the words u learnt (step 5)

8- continue your weak as ordinary as step 1-4.

9- use step 5 for all the words..... ohhhhh didn't reach this day yet....

10-take one day rest. repeat the whole words.

• i don't promise it will work for u but so far it's working for me but I do promise that u will learn the first 28 words in no more than 5 min., try doing the same for 28 words begining with the same letter and see the difference.

• my secret to it: try putting every 28 words u learn in a paper (use it as landscape not portrait) and make a line between every 28 words then everyday must have one paper (only one) after sometime u will see that the 1400 word is not a big deal and 14 paper made during the study will make it more easy to remember. Don't write the words meanings just the words themselves. Mark the words in everyday that u always forget and try to concentrate on them when reviewing.

• some people may like to switch no. (5) with no. (6) it's ok.... and maybe better.

hi ajay,
how r u? hope u like my plan. it seems that we always do things for each other like in math section.

please take into account that u have all the day long so don't try to force 100 word at a time take it 25 every while .... it will be better.... this is a special advice for u only "ajay".

also u can keep going on practicing in verbal section as well because words alone is not enough, you have to practice them. you can go also for prefix and suffix stuff this will help. I think u may need 2-3 hrs a day for the words and verbal section, so u can get high scores in it.

hi sabna,
thanks for your post and here is an advice for you. try puting a limit of 20 min for each 25 words ... i think it's more than enough and after finishing the whole 100 put another 20 min. for doing the following.
-try to review the words.
-try to find any relations or any things between the words u have studied say all the words that start with P or all 8th word of every 25 word. or maybe all the words that have similar meaning or similar pronounciations if exists.
- u may want to take the first word then the last ... the second then the one before last .... and so on...... u will find yourself some kind of entertainment in this yakee study of words.

- if u have done the 14 paper as i told u it would be more fun. try remembering all words in row * col position or words on the diagonal of the array. the secondary diagonal. anythnig with the array.

nice work dude... this technique will surely help many of us TMins, though im a bit lazzzy (also im givin gmat), still i will try this approach. Atleast it will act as a schoolmaster' stick...

btw dear 7days make up a 'week' not a 'weak' ( ), guess u havnt reached th letter 'w' as if fo now.... just kiddin... (hope u don't mind my pin pointin, im tht way only... a critic.lol)

but, no seriously anybody who follows this technique Even with some seriousnss is bound to be benefitted.

thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it alot. Now i've learnt about 600 words and it's just working fine for me. (my memory is not very good but my technique is still workin fine)

Tried, Tested and Approved
This technique actually works. My efficiency has gone up from 80% to 95% and it takes a lot less time since I dont have to make any flashcards.
Now i dont even have to worry about which wordlist to do and I do around 70 words easily.

i didnt try ur technique but i can just feel that its better....

variety is the spice of life.. so if u learn a few words each day from different letters you will find it fun!!!!!!!

but hey wat do u think are the letters that are most iportant... ???
