Verbal-340,quant-770: Please Help me in prepaeration

Hi all,

I have already given gre once, But verbal score is very bad. I have got only 340. I am not getting how to prepare. I feel I have not adopted right method of preparation.
Please help me..
Should simply go on byhearting the word list? But there is no end to it.. or should I try as many question as possible?
I am aiming at getting 600+ this time. i have to else I will not get admission for my MS in ECE in good university.
Please help me..

dude!!!! jus relax n learn words as u encounter them.. i mean read good newpapers n learn words as u meet them... remember them using contect..

aslo work on word power made easy

n u can ofcourse read barrons.. n solve as many big book stuff as possible...

then try n enjoy ur preparation

If you have time, I think you should learn the words first. They seem endless but you will find out that studying them is not as difficult as it seems. I suggest concentrating on the Barron's list only (95% words in my paper-based test was from Barrons, I scored 750 after I studied this list, and I am not a native speaker).

Without words, the excercises will not help to achieve much. Only if the time is limited, the excercises be more helpful than studying new words. In this case it makes sense to concentrate on reading and sentence completion sections, they can be cracked without having huge vocabulary. The analogies and antonyms sections are hopeless without good vocabulary.

That's my opinion I formed after going through all this long GRE story...

By the way, try to get Q-800. Big Book has lots of excercises, some of them are tricky. This may help.

When I was looking for this about a year ago, I didn't find it online. I don't think you will either. You also cannot buy a new book in places like Amazon because it is out of print. You can buy a used book at e-bay, there are many big books sold there. I bought mine for $100, but I think you can find better price. The right part of Test Magic main page contains a link "Big Book". Click on this link and you will find a link to the place at e-bay where big gooks are sold.

Study vocabulary. Don't get intimidated by all the words. You don't have to memorize them all at once, and you defiinitely don't have to know their exact meanings.

If you have several months to prepare, the best way to learn vocabulary is by learning words in context. Read GRE level material like The Wall Street Journal or The New York Times. Look up unfamiliar words and take not of how there were used.

If you don't have a lot of time, study X number of words per day and review at the end of the week. Remember not to stress and just take it as it goes. If you're thinking that it's just a billion words that you can't possibly learn, that's how it's going to seem.

Breathe. Relax. Study about 50 words a day, and reivew them at the end. You'll be fine.

Hi People,
Thanks for the help. I have started with Gurus GRE wordlist. 21B. I have done about 1100 words, out of which about 600 are very simple once which are not at all GRE level, but others are from Barrons. I am taking Real19 test posted on this forum, these are only Vocab tests.. I am getting on an average of 23 to 25 out of 38. My Quant score scaled is 790. Can any one help me.. what is the scaled score for these real19 tests.. if I get 24/38.. I took the ets paperbased test given in pdf. I got less score in that.. But other tests I am getting pretty well.. Any perticular reason?

I practive daily 25-30 words.. My pan is to give GRE last week of April-2005 or first week of May -2005 and score goal is Q800, V600.

Any other suggestions please post. It will help me in fine tuning my preperation.
