Sorry to burst your bubble but I am doubtful about some of your answers and some are clearly wrong. I hope this criticism is taken in the positive spirit. Some changes: (I haven't gone through the whole list yet) 8. BLANDISHMENT:COAX:: (A) medal:honor (B) budget:save (C) diary:reminisce (D) concert lay(E) plea:threaten I'm pretty sure the right answer isn't [D], my guess would be [E] because they're mild variations of each other. 9. ATTENTIVE:OFFICIOUS:: officious is meddelesome pretending to be attentive (A) doubtful:ambiguous (B) absorbed:engrossed (C) refined:snobbish (D) magisterial:authoritative (E) impromptu:spontaneous I think the closest answer is [C] There are some more errors in that .doc document, so just be warned that it's not 100% right, and @coolpaggy: it would have been better if you had mentioned that you're not sure about all the answers when you upload such a file, because some poor sods may actually end up confused by the wrong answers therein. Re: some analogies
I have to say that coolpaggy is indeed an earnest person, but IMHO, the answer is errerneous and misleading
1: C->E 8 D->A 9 E->C 10 E->A 13 B->A 17 C->A 18 D->A 19 E->C 21 D->E 22 A 23 B->E 26 D->B 30 A , not B 32 B->E 36 E->B 37 D->A 39 B 40 D, you are right the only indefinite answer is that to 29 it might be A |

SUBSIDY : SUPPORT:: (A)assistance: endowment (B)funds : fellowship (C)credit : payment (D)debt : obligation (E)loan : note A “subsidy” is a form of “support,” in particular, financial support. A rationale for this analogy could be “X is a kind of Y.” (A)is not the answer. An “endowment” is a form of financial “assistance,” but “assistance” is not a kind of “endowment.” (B)is not the answer. “Funds” could be used to provide a “fellowship”(a stipend), but “funds” are not a kind of “fellowship.” (C)is not the answer. “Credit” can be used in place of “payment”; it is not a kind of “payment.” (D)is the answer. A “debt” is a kind of “obligation,” often a financial one. (E)Is not the answer. A “note” is an acknowledgment of a “loan,” but it is not itself a kind of “loan.” no5 is A |
