Hi,
I have about 15 days left; I'm a native English speaker and I scored a 590 on my last practice test about a week ago: do you think a perfect score is beyond my reach ? ![]() I'm almost done with the Barrons- 75-80 %... I've been trying to do other word books simultaneously. The problem is that I just find a lot of words which look soo familiar but end up going wrong because of some inane reason . Do I try to make those words stay, in the little time I have ? Or do I just forget about making myself thorough on the lists and continue with practice....?How essential is it to know the entire word list thoroughly ? I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who's been there/ just about anyone who can help! Merci beaucoup!! ![]() Archana |

Re: 590 to 800 in 15 days ??
i'm having the same problem especially with antonyms where i just can't find the right opposite! i think you shouldn't worry about it just keep on practicing and reading and everything will flow on the test day.

Re: 590 to 800 in 15 days ??
All of us are basically having the same problems regarding words!!! There is no 'perfect' method as everyone have their own ways. And even memorising all the words in the Barrons DO NOT ensure a 800; as there will definitely be quite a few non-Barron words! The luckier you are,the fewer will be the no. of non-Barron words. So I guess all you got to do is pray for good luck and practice hard!

You are absolutely right samy_dg, Barrons wordlist unfortunately is not equal to GRE Verbal
!!Archana, I guess Barrons Worlist is the basic stuff, that you need to get a hang on and ofcourse once you do that, we can try to learn new words from other sources. Its always a good idea to consolidate your strengths rather than invading new frontiers ! Raghu. Off Topic : @ Archana, Merci beaucoup!! coooooool ! Did u also do a course or two in french by any chance ![]() |

Hi asphalt, mrk4gre, samy_dg,
Thanks for the help!!! I guess its practice for me. I decided that I'd postpone my GRE by a few weeks if my score on the Powerprep is really bad. Either way, its practice, practice and more practice!! mrk4gre: Yes, I did a few courses in French. Its a nice language and shares a number of roots with English. Good luck everyone! Archana |
