a. craven:knight b. erudite:leader c. judicious:mediator d. propitious:mendicant e. sensual:volupuary book logic: a sage is some one who is wise similarly, by defination, a voluptuary is someone who is sensual ??why cant it be "C"? a sage is wise, a mediator is judicious. dirge:mourning a. affliction:adversity b. mirth:entertainment c. laughter:merriment d. lamentation:funeral e. baffle:sound book logic: a dire is verbal form of mourning, usually in the form of a song sung at a funeral.similarly, laughter is the verbal expression of merriment. ???why cant it be "B"?i feel B and C are both one and the samething.i cant notice the subtle difference plan:scheme a. symphony:concerto b. annoyance:evasion c. statesman  oliticiand. assignment:task e. prison:jail book logic: a scheme is a plan with sinister connotations. of the choices here is statesman is a politician with negative connotations. ???i marked "D" its wrong.is it not presumtious to say dat politician is a negative connotation? the primary___ of the region's cuisine, such as beans, legumes and pasta, provide high levels of complex carbohydrates and often ___ meat as the primary source of protien in the diet. a. requirements...supplements b. components...replace c. fads...subjoin d. facet...duplicate e. ingridients...indemnify book logic: the noun cud be B or E but indemnify(to pay for a loss)makes no sense at all, whereas replace is a resonable choice. ???how can carbohydrates REPLACE protiens? according to me "A" is a better option.Or does da author mean dat in addition to protiens, beans etc, also have carbohydrates? |

1. A mediator need not be judicious (one who is prudent or good judgement); A mediator just might bring the conflicting parties together for a discussion or a resolution.
But a voluptuary by definition is a sensualist. 2. Am not sure; Dirge is an expression of mourning; mirth is not an expression - it is merriment often expressed by laughter. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=mirth C fits better. 3. Dunno; maybe they had indian politicians in mind. 4. For the first blank, only ingredients or components fit. Legumes, beans .... can't be requirements of a cuisine. That leaves us with B / E. Indemnify - compensate for; Beans, legume.. compensate for meat as protein source - doesn't make sense. Rather, beans, legumes not only are source of complex carbs., but also replace meat as protein source.  |

Well beans aren't carbohydrates.
Must admit one thing... this one was pretty confusing. Especially the statesment one. I wouldn't have EVER thought of that. To tell you the truth it still doesn't sound right to me... and that's scary ! |

For the SC:

Vegetarians use beans as a source of protein to replace the protein they would have consumed eating meat. So, beans are most likely replacing the meat.
