I feel 100 words per hour.

IF you read that much. than you forget that easily right. 100 words if not 50 words per hour.

The more you read, the more you Forget. The More you forget, there is need for more to read.

Some professor in my School, thought me. I dont remember his name.

I guess, what makes life is

Inch by Inch life is cinch , yard by yard life is hard.

Can this be applicable to gre words too ? Hope so. if not Gre would be a cake walk for most of us.

thats right.....100 words per hour is possible but you'll need that much more time in revising it so that you dont forget......its actually faster but its not at easy as 30 words per day....it requires a different approach probably if i am able to do well at my gre i'll let everyone know exactly how to do it.

hi frnds...reading a 100 words is bit difficult but not impossible.Recently i read an article in the web(forgot the link) which says that instead of trying to put an info again and again like a word meaning ,say abase = humiliation in short term memory we shld put a set of word meanings at the same time in short term memory and eventually revising it will autmatically tranfer the contents from short term to long term memory. However this very much depends on individal capabilities it has worked good for me..I use to split my wordlist into bunch of 10 words just read through them for 20 seconds then after a minute i will try to recollect ,after few revisions i am able to remember it...

I used GRE bible to learn words...it contains 3000 word from Baron....good to look at...not so much congested like baron book. though it has some error ( due to bugs I guess)....but overall its good. there are 100 list each containing 30 words...after finishing this you can go to baron and add the missing one to your list :-)

Actullay, What pellucid did to make GRE bible is just to copy baron...but they got some programming error ( as they didn't hire me ...:-) )..that's why you get some wrong explanation...one word shows the meaning of another word...due to wrong entry of database..

Vocab is a tricky thing, but hopefully my method will work for you.

I am a free associate, so what I mean is that when I learn a word, I try to contextualize it or connect it to something I already know. For example, OBDURATE means resistant to persuasion, and hardened in feeling so I associated it with my horrible boss from before. Or, take the word PREVARICATE which means to deceive; notice that it has the word VARY in it, so you can associate that with "varying from the truth." For something like MALEVOLENT, I thought of the evil witch character in the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty because she has a similar, if not the same name. The same applies to UMBRAGE, which means offence, and when you remember the Harry Potter character, you see how you can remember that offensive person's characteristic. Does this help?

Sometimes word roots help. For example, if you know that BEL means war, you can get BELLICOSE = warlike. This is not a hard and fast rule, but if you have the time, knowing the roots can help with memorizing actual words.

These are the techniques I used and unfortunately sometimes you will have to rely on memory alone. Seeing it used in a sentence may help you, so check unfamiliar words on dictionary.com or other dictionary websites.

Good luck studying! And all the best for the GRE!
