Hmmm..I also started to work on verbal section. Memorizing that full list is difficult. I don't believe that somebody can train you to memorize 100 words per hr. Anyway, nobody or no s/w can train me.
Try some softwares (I heard vocab builder is good. There are many good s/w out there it seems..) and make your own flash cards if you have sufficient time to prepare. (Try to make a good phrase for each word, you find difficult to remember). I use etymology, connotation to understand the word if it is too difficult for me to memorize. Also you can make mp3 sound files (which includes the meaning, phrases, sample sentences) so that you can hear it where ever you are. Try to find some way to link the word to something which you can remember and interesting. For eg: abstemious: This word has all the vowels in the alphabetical order (there are other words too which belongs to this group). That helps me to recognize the word when I see it. then split it (abs:from, temetum: strong drink...like that). Or make something of your own. May be illogical to others. But who cares, as long as you can remember it. "Word power made easy": by Norman Lewis is a good book to start with. Just spurting out my way of approaching it. Of course, your method of prepartion depends on the time you have for the test. Try to work out something which suits you. All the best. Milmerry |

I saw the same achievers point site and saw a book which has all the 3500 words of barrons represented in pictures. I think it might be useful. but don't know how the illustrations will be. It shouldn't be such that we remember the pictures and forget the words. If any one has used this please let us know asap.

I've just started preparing for the GRE exam and I realized that memorizing words is probably the toughest aspect of this examination.
Memorizing and retaining 100 words per day is quite a strenuous job, so forget about doing 100 in 1 hour! I'm using these flashcards as I found Gre barron word meanings quite complicated and I had look into dictionary quite often. I would suggest the same. And I also think learning root words is futile, but I could be wrong here. |

I find a website GRE Word of The Day from GREword.com , they are giving GRE words along with picture and mnemonics. I think it might help us.

actually, 100 words per hour is not impossible......infact i think its rather simple...i have been doing it myself.......the trick is going through the words over and over again......
take 30-50 words at a time and just go through all of em with the purpose of understanding the meaning...once you complete one go, go through them again, this time with the purpose of remembering the meaning without looking... your aim must be to remember as many words as possible.... do this over and over again until you are able to remember all meanings without looking......this will take you about 20mins to half an hour depending upon the number of words (maybe not the first time but with practice, probably on your 5 or 6th list you will be able to complete it in that much time)..... do it this way and 100 words per hour is achievable. i have done 130 words in one hour once when i could concentrate really well..... its all about how difficult YOU think it is. i might not end up scoring that well ultimately but as far as 100 words per hour is concerned, i know it is not difficult at all. ![]() |
