I found out that almost all of my apps are due Dec 1, 8, or 15. The GRE score report for the Nov. 8 exam gets mailed to institutions and myself on Dec. 18. For $12 you can call on the phone and get the score for the Nov. 8 subject exam on December 10. They say it takes 5 more business days to send the scores via phone (5 more days after dec. 18th I presume is what they mean).
I'm wondering what I should do. If I do poorly, I don't want to send my subject-scores to schools that only say it's recommended or not required. Should I just get my score on the 10th by phone and then decide which schools to send it to over the phone? Do you think there'll be problems if I do it this way?
I've already taken my general GRE... so:
What I COULD do is right now have ONLY my general scores sent to all the schools I'm applying to. That should at least partially cover my rear so that my application is technically complete (except for the few schools which categorically require the subject exam).
Then what I could do is wait until december 10th for my score on the phone and then decide if I'm going to send it to the optional schools and definitely have it sent to the mandatory schools (via the phone). It will likely get there later than they like (after the application deadline), so I would have to send them an email on Dec. 10 saying - hey... sorry this is coming in late, please add this arriving score report to my application.
I don't necessarily want to ask every school's department beforehand if they're okay with a late subject-based GRE score because then they'll be expecting a subject-GRE score from me (and I may not want to send it if I do poorly and it isn't mandatory).
Does this make sense? Does anybody out there have experience with taking the Nov. subject GRE and attempting to reconcile between reporting scores and getting them in time for December apps?
