How to approach the study
Hi !
Could anyone suggest a good systematic approach to prepare for the GRE ? I am working currently. Got to go at around 7:30am morning. By the time i come back home its around 8-9pm IST. Also i might have to work the coming weekends full day till August. So, there is time crunch. I want to attempt for the FALL program next year. I cannot afford to compromise on my GRE score also. I am from India. So, i need to answer my GRE by this year september end. Then the process of applying to colleges come up. I have given my TOEFL 10 days back. Waiting for the score. I have purchased Kaplan book (latest edition) to study for the GRE. Have got the GRE Antonym list and Word List from the GREGUIDE site. I started my preps last week itself. I have gone through around 250 antonyms and also the Quantitative section given in the Kaplan book. Not gone through the tests till now. I have just gone through the question types and the set of 60 questions in the practise section of the Kaplan book. Please could anybody help me......perhaps give me some good suggestion.......I have to get a good score as does all of us out here attempt for. |

Sounds complicated, I used to work full time in the past and it is killing, the question is: are you capable to give one hour of studying daily?
Speaking of Quantitative, if math is your thing or you have a good math background this will certainly save you, otherwise, I suggest you go through Barron's and Nova (I'm not familiar with Kaplan). For the Verbal, start learning the frequent word list and then expand the words based on your time, it's good that you started with antonyms. When you feel comfortable with GRE words, attack the other sections. Good Luck! |

Hi!!,
I think u shud begin with the high frequency gre word list. then move onto the other words, take sum cat's in between(kaplan, barron, powerprep, princeton). I hope u r gud at quant. I think u shud be devoting atleast 4 hrs/day for gre prep to geta gud score all the best snehal Quote:

OK, first of all, try to make as many flash cards as possible, because even if you don't have time at home, you have some time when you are in the transportation (if you don't drive, of course) or at least at lunchtime. Go through flash cards every day.
If you work on a computer, you can install program which will give you some difficult word from time to time. Pretty sure, they have a lot of those programs able for free download from Internet. Go to mygretutor.com. A lot of free stuff to train. The same goes for number2.com website. |

Thanks a lot all.
I will work on the Barron's frequent list as most have said - gone through QUANT section of Kaplan as said. Now going through the Analytical section from the same book. Just so worried at this point as timelines are crunch. Nobody has to go to work on weekends i believe. On an average i try to dig out some 2-3 hrs a day atleast for my preps. ![]() Tell me this should do for a total of 3 months of study. Good score is a must !! Did anyone go through KAPLAN ?? |
