I have about 4 months to prepare for the GRE, and my english is as good as someone with english as a native language, i may lack the haute vocab though.
Now how do i go about preparing for it, i did a course last year but delayed my test date until late this year. Should i combine section prep with test taking? I must point out here that i have limited tests at hand (until ofcourse i get hold of the big book) so i don't want to waste any of those. Also, should i do math everyday, i was a math major until (Indian) high school? Suggestions from people who have already taken the test AND achieved a good score would prove extmely helpful. Forever grateful, BigDuke P.S. Would anyone be interested in forming an online study group, we could co-ordinate our activity through TM.

Re: Timeline and study group
There are some very good posts on GRE prep - from when I was preparing..The one on verbal skills by Amigo ro is a must read.
Other than that-IMO- you should take tests ever so often in between your studies- so you can evaluate your standing in each section. Also I would advise you to not underestimate GRE math- it is based on simple math- but the application is very different from what we did in school. Also, its much easier to get a good score in Math (again my opinion) than in verbal. For verbal- you need more regular and repetitious study- but again, analogies and reading comprehension can turn out to be more than you bargained for. Go through the questions posted on this site in past posts- you may find quite a number of challenging ones in each category. Best of luck! Feel free to ask again if I havent answered any of your queries.

Re: Timeline and study group
I would be interested in the online study group if others are. Maybe we could do it over IM ,blog or a wiki site. I have the barrons book, guru and another word list. If you have other books or techniques we could trade ideas over the previously mentioned mediums.
We could also share application essays after trust was established. hock_t@yahoo.com |
